LORD HELP ME TO UNDERSTAND “ME” BETTER & LEARN TO CO-0PERATE WITH YOU.(1)

As you can see from the title I am commencing a new series today which I trust and pray will be a blessing to you and to assist you in your walk with the Lord.

The Apostle Paul in the conclusion to his first letter to the Thessalonian church prays an awesome prayer and benediction over these Believers. I Thess.5:23

Now may the God of peace Himself SANCTIFY you completely; and may your WHOLE SPIRIT,SOUL AND BODY be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. ²⁴ He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.
AMP N.T And may the God of peace Himself sanctify you through and through [separate you from profane things, make you PURE AND WHOLLY CONSECRATED TO GOD; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved SOUND AND COMPLETE [and found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah)

PASSION ²³ Now, may the God of peace and harmony set you apart, making you completely holy. And may your entire being—spirit, soul, and body—be kept completely flawless in the appearing of our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One.

There is so much truth in this single verse, may the Lord help us to understand all that He wants us to know and experience.

Firstly man is primarily made up of three parts:

BODY

SOUL

SPIRIT

and each part needs to be SANCTIFIED.

We will look at these three parts and I trust we will understand ourselves better by the conclusion of this series.

We will start with the spirit of man, the writer to Hebrews declares that the Word of God can divide between the spirit and soul. For ease of teaching we will look at these 2 parts separately.

Most Theologians teach that only the CONSCIENCE is in the spirit of man prior to a person being born again.

In simple terms the conscience is a red flashing light within us to warn us that what we are about to do or want to do is making a choice between that which is good (wise) or (unwise) (sin) evil.

In an Asian country that I have ministered in many times over the years has a saying that is very pertinent to this truth.

THE COLOUR RED IS SIMPLY A DIFFERENT SHADE OF GREEN

So in this particular country, many many drivers simply do this every day, and disregard the road rules and drive through red traffic lights and suffer the consequences.

If you are honest, prior to being born again you (we) often disregarded our conscience and made decisions that we have since regretted, we are so thankful for the Lord’s forgiveness and restoration. Paul describes this in 1 Tim.4:2 KJV ² Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; in other words our conscience virtually ceases to function in our lives.

Now that we are born again, we need to co-operate with the Lord and let the Word of God and the Holy Spirit RENEW OUR CONSCIENCE, so that when we come anywhere near sin and disobedience we hear our conscience telling us to back off, and reject the temptation and walk in victory.

I guess the reality is that all of us of us have failed the Lord because we didn’t respond to our conscience, are you aware of recent situations when you wish you hadn’t failed the Lord? I am reminded of the words of James in his letter 4:2 NKJV Yet you do not have because you do not ASK.

I want to encourage you to regularly ask the Lord to renew your conscience especially as you read the Word of God and let the Holy Spirit work on your conscience that there will increased sensitivity to the Lord and His Word as you learn to respond to the “flashing red light”, I sure want this to be my experience too.

When we are born again and the Holy Spirit comes to reside in us, 2 new things begin to operate in our spirit, this we will discuss in the next blog.
