ARE WE AT A PICNIC OR IN A WAR ?

By John Ollis

Many of us have had the privilege of hearing  the anointed preaching of Canon J.John from the U.K. He is an excellent creative  and at times humorous communicator. It has been said that a preacher uses  humour to help the medicine go down, here is one of his sayings.
THE CHURCH IS NOT A CRUISE LINER ON WHICH WE GLIDE OUR WAY TO HEAVEN ON PERMANENT VACATION. IT IS A BATTLESHIP THAT REQUIRES ALL HANDS ON DECK AS IT FIGHTS IT WAY TO A GLORIOUS DESTINATION.
The false gospel preachers want us to believe the Christian life is a bed of roses, where everyone is flourishing and prosperous and  on a perpetual picnic. This type of preaching leaves Christians confused and disillusioned, as life simply is NOT like that. of course there are times when everything is going well and it seems like a lovely cruise. (I am counting down the days until we leave for our cruise). James even says Count it all joy (get excited) when you are tempted !!!!
The Apostle Paul makes it very clear in his writings, that from the very first day we became  a Christian we were enlisted in an army and there is a real battle with a real enemy. The exciting thing is we are on the winning side for we have:

  1. Read the last page of the book
  2. A complete  set of armour that if we put it on and wear it we are totally protected
  3. A mighty Captain the Lord Jesus Christ (He has never lost a battle).

So, let me encourage you today, that even though  we are in a war we fight from a winning position, we do not need to even lose a battle or a skirmish as our enemy has ALREADY been defeated. The enemy seeks to take territory that is NOT his to take. The Bible says he is all noise, but is simply a TOOTHLESS LION.
He often has the tactic of sneaking up on us when we least expect it, I pray we will never relax, but remain vigilant and alert continually. That even when we are asleep we can claim the Lord’s protection over our mind.
What an armoury we have.
The Word of God
Prayer
The Name of Jesus
The blood of Jesus
Our brothers and sisters in Christ who are there to support us
Living in the light of Christ’s soon return  (1 John 3:2-3)
Without boasting we can declare, “I am on the victory side, I am always a  winner when I lay hold of God’s protection for me.
I trust this reminder is a blessing to you, if we resist our enemy he must RUN AWAY praise God.
may you have a blessed weekend, may the Lord speak to you through the preached word, and you commence the new week refreshed and renewed.
