MORE ABOUT MAKING REPENTANCE A LIFESTYLE

By John Ollis

I want to commence this blog, firstly by giving thanks to the Lord for the fact that he has been opening up TRUTH to me in a very awesome way. Although I have been born again over 70 years, and have read the Word of God much, still He is opening up His Word more and more, as Jesus said in John 14:13 NKJV However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into ALL truth. In a recent blog “Are you aware and ready for the soon return of Jesus for His Church”, I made the statement REPENTANCE MUST BEOME A LIFESTYLE. It is this truth I want to write more about today.

Sadly, if you ask most Christians “what does the word repentance mean to them?” Their response would be “being sorry for their sins and asking forgiveness for them”. So in their minds being a Christian means “sin and confess” for the rest of your life.

THERE IS SO MUCH MORE TO REPENTANCE THAN THAT.

Repentance means: turning around and changing.

  1. We must have a change of mind
  2. We must have a change of attitude to sin
  3. We must decide to change direction
  4. We must have a change of affection

A Pastor friend tells me he preaches The three “C”s of Repentance

  1. Contrition
  2. Confession
  3. Change

When we are born again, all our old bad habits, attitudes and habit don’t simply go away, that is why Biblical Discipleship and teaching is essential so we learn to live a victorious holy life.

I have written much about “God’s so great Salvation” again many think this is simply Jesus dying on a cross and shedding His blood, and if we confess our sins we will be forgiven. God’s so great Salvation covers every aspect of our lives, which includes how to live in victory over sin. this includes the whole armour of God Eph. 6:10-18, which we must learn to put on and learn how to use each piece of the armour. (see past blogs).

Our biggest enemy is not other people or the devil, but it is us.

Paul tells us in 1 Cor. 10:13 NKJV No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

We will be tempted throughout our lives, but as we lay hold of our personal inheritance in God’s so great Salvation, we can learn to live in victory and holiness, as we co-operate with the Word, we learn to turn and change, and find that escape from every temptation.

James tells us in James 4:7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. James 4:7 NKJV. There are 2 awesome truths here.

To live the victorious life, we must learn to live THE SURRENDERED LIFE, it must be a lifestyle. For the evil one is also an enemy, but thankfully another part of God’s so great Salvation is that as we live surrendered to the Lord, we can resist the devil, and must FLEE, he knows the Word of God better than you or I, but as we take the Sword of the Spirit (The Word) and resist him, he MUST WITHDRAW.

Some people who will read this blog, will say, “this is all pie in the sky”, I say to you, please ask the Lord for a Mentor who will walk with you for as long as it takes until this truth is a living reality in your life.
