STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF GOD

By John Ollis

We are in the midst of winter here, it is very cold and wet and snow down to around 300 metres. I had to go out twice yesterday, once in the morning, and once in the afternoon, and each time was greeted by a beautiful rainbow in the sky, this is EXCLUSIVELY God’s symbol, and he tells us, He will never flood the earth again. I have been quoting a number of old songs lately in my blogs and this one came to me yesterday. These are a couple of the first lines.
Every promise in the book is mine, every chapter, every verse, and every line All are blessings of His  love divine.
We must see the God’s Word as His love letter to us, and be consumed with a desire to read and meditate on the Word, letting the written Word (Logos) become a Rhema Word to us, as we embrace and claim God’s promises over our lives.
Again we must do as the old song says:
Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
Through eternal ages let His praises ring,
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.

Refrain

Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Savior;
Standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.

Refrain

Standing on the promises I now can see
Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;
Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,
Standing on the promises of God.

Refrain

Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God.

Refrain

Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
Listening every moment to the Spirit’s call
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God.

Refrain

We must not assume or take God’s promises for granted but claim them, and confess them before the Lord, believing that IN HIS TIME they will come to pass in our lives.

We can all relate stories of how we claimed a promise of God and it came to pass, but so often we forget and try and work things out our way, it must become a lifestyle, that the first place we go is the Word of God (not the last).

May this simple blog encourage and challenge you to let the Word of God be paramount in your live EVERY DAY.
