DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE SPORTS TEAM?

By John Ollis

Most Australians are fanatical about their sport, and many hundreds of thousands of our citizens go and watch their team each week, and I guess just as many watch it in television. Some say the main religion in Australia is sport, and the spectators really get excited about their team or key/s players, and will shout constantly, for their team, and of course against the opposition or the umpire.

I regularly read the Psalms as well as another passage of Scripture every day, and it seems to me the Psalmist is continually encouraging God’s people to SHOUT TO THE LORD. Sadly, I can hear some Christians say, that is what you expect the Charismatics or Pentecostals to do, but let us remember that the Psalms were written many many hundred of years before the birth of the Christian church. If we see some one raise their hands in church in worship some immediately think he or she must be a charismatic, keep an eye on them.!!!!!

WHY SHOULD WE SHOUT TO THE LORD?

Christ is the Rock of our salvation (Psalm 95:1)

The Lord is the GREAT God (Psalm 95:3)

We are the people of His pasture  and the sheep of His hand (Psalm 95:7)

He has put a new song in our heart (Psalm 96:1)

For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised (Psalm 96:4)

For the Lord reigns (Psalm 96:10)

For the Lord is coming again (Psalm 96:13)

For light is sown for the righteous, and goodness for the upright (Psalm 97:11)

For the Lord has done marvellous things (Psalm 98:1)

For the Lord our God is holy (Psalm 99:9)

Here are just a few reasons, from these Psalms why we have every reason to SHOUT TO LORD. It maybe you may have to meditate  on some of these awesome things that are part of our inheritance in Christ.

IT IS TIME WE STOPPED BEING AS QUIET AS CHURCH MICE.

If we can get excited about a ball filled with air, how much more we should and MUST get excited about Jesus. I have a sneaky feeling heaven is going to be a NOISY place, and some Christians are going to feel uncomfortable up there, let me encourage you, as you meditate on these awesome facts listed above about our Lord Jesus Christ that you let the excitement build in your heart, of course there is a time to be quiet and contemplate God’s goodness but there is also a  time to walk  in obedience to the Scripture and SHOUT TO THE LORD.

In a few months time, I will have been a born again believer for 65 years, and at least 55 years since I was filled with the Spirit, I have NEVER been so excited about Jesus as I am at this time, not just for all He has done and is doing for me daily, but I love Him for who He is.  You are not embarrassed when you shout for your team at a sports match, refuse to be embarrassed when you shout to the Lord, He wasn’t embarrassed to be crucified on a cross, and suffer an ignominious death and burial for you, that was His finished work for you, then He rose again, and ascended to heaven and continues His unfished work for you and me today, He ever lives to make intercession for us. We are here in victory and blessing and anointing ALL BECAUSE OF JESUS. If that doesn’t make you want to shout then as men like Spurgeon would say, I wonder if you are truly saved. Listen to the exhortation of the Psalmist one more time (Psalm 47:1)

CLAP YOUR HANDS ALL YOU PEOPLES? SHOUT  TO GOD WITH THE VOICE OF TRIUMPH

We leave in the morning to go and visit our children and grandchildren who live interstate, I may not be on line to blog much for the next couple of weeks, but still look forward to your comments  ok ?
