WHAT'S IN A NAME?

By John Ollis

We have heard this saying many times, “WHAT’S IN A NAME”?
The Psalmist continually refers to the name of God, and that we must life His name on high. God’s name reflects so much about His character, and his love for His people. he is known as:
El Shaddai (Lord God Almighty)
El Elyon (The Most High God)
Adonai (Lord, Master)
Yahweh (Lord Jehovah)
Jehovah Nissi (The Lord my Banner)
Jehovah Jehovah Raah (The lord my Shepherd)
Jehovah Rapha (The Lord that Heals)
Jehovah Shammah (The Lord is There)
Jehovah Tsidkenu (The Lord our Righteousness)
Jehovah Mekadishkem (The Lord who Sanctifies you)
El Olam (The Everlasting God)
Jehovah Jireh (The Lord will Provide)
Jehovah (the Lord our Peace)
Jehovah Saboath (The Lord of Hosts)
We come to the New Testament and Mary is told You shall call His name  your son Jesus for He will save His people from their sins.
On my very first visit to the Holy Land I met a number of people called Jesus, as it is a common name in the Middle East, but what is in a name? Surely it is all about the person behind the name, and I love the name of Jesus, because of its unique connection to the Son of God, The Gaither’s wrote “Jesus there’s just something about that name”.  An old chorus we sang many years ago, said, “His name is as ointment poured forth” there is such a fragrance attached to that name.
To sit in the Lord’s presence and simply whisper the name JESUS, and tell Him how much you love Him, or in a moment of crisis to cry out JESUS.
I was reminded of this old hymn, that has been such a blessing to me over the years.
There have been names that I have loved to hear,
But never has there been a name so dear
To this heart of mine, as the Name divine,
The precious, precious Name of Jesus.

Refrain

Jesus is the sweetest name I know,
And He’s just the same as His lovely Name,
And that’s the reason why I love Him so;
Oh, Jesus is the sweetest name I know.

There is no name in earth or Heav’n above,
That we should give such honor and such love
As the blessèd Name, let us all acclaim,
That wondrous, glorious Name of Jesus.

Refrain

And some day I shall see Him face to face
To thank and praise Him for His wondrous grace,
Which He gave to me, when He made me free,
The blessèd Son of God called Jesus.

Refrain

Do you love the name of Jesus (and he is just the same as His lovely name) and spend time worshipping Him each day, and lifting His name on High? I so look forward to the day when I see Jesus in all His power and glory and will WORSHIP HIM FOR ALL ETERNITY.

remember His Name is above every other name, for there is no one like Jesus, the eternal Son of God.
