LET US FOLLOW DAVID'S EXAMPLE

By John Ollis

When Samuel the Prophet poured the holy anointing oil upon David’s head, the Bible tells us the Holy Spirit came upon David. This experience was the start of a journey that changed David’s life, and also the millions he became king over, and we thousands of years later as we read and meditate upon his Psalms.
Following his anointing he went back to looking after sheep, and as he sat in the field or on the side of a hill, he would begin to  pluck his harp and sing songs to the Lord, he became known as the “Sweet psalmist of Israel”.
When David would visit Jerusalem, he would hear the call of the Holy Spirit. and he would head toward the Temple and as he expressed in Psalm 100:4 I will enter His gates with Thanksgiving and into His courts with praise..NKJV He learnt to be thankful in the times of isolation with the sheep. I am sure he would “count his blessings, and even learnt the glorious truth Paul declares in 1 Thess. 5:18  IN everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus NKJV. David had a revelation that God was SOVEREIGN, and that everything that came his way was from the lord or with the Lord’s permission. In the Outer Court  He would look upon the Brazen Altar and thank God for His “so great salvation” remembering that “without the shedding of blood there is no remissions for our sins.  and then look upon the Brazen Laver, and was reminded of the cleansing sanctifying power of the Word of God in his life.
He would hear again the call of the Spirit to go on into the Holy Place, and would see the lamps illuminating this area, and he would Praise God for the Holy Spirit’s ministry of “turning the light on” when it came to the Word of God. He would praise God for the flame of the Holy Spirit that purges the heart of a man who will seek after God. He praised God for the Manna, that was “food to make him grow” and then look upon the Altar of Incense, and praise God for the privilege of prayer and communion with God.
When David brought back the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem, it was not hidden away behind a veil in the Temple, but for forty years was on open display. David introduced a whole new order of worship which included:
