LOOKING AT THE TRINITY OF MAN
I have the privilege on the First & Third Mondays of the month to share a short Devotional with some of the retired men in our local church, we meet in a Coffee Shop, and it is a sweet time of sharing together. In my last blog on knowing and doing the will of God I quoted 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. NKJV. This verse started to personally challenge my heart, and it became the basis of the Devotional this morning. I had mentioned that many Commentators suggest that John was saying we must walk in the Light of the Word and God AND our conscience. John tells us we must WALK, in the light of the WORD OF GOD AND OUR CONSCIENCE, and walk in KOINONIA (fellowship) and the Blood of Christ will be continually be upon us.
I began to think about this awesome creation of God OUR BODY King David exclaimed I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Psalm 139:14 NKJV If David could make such a statement how much more must we, as we now understand so much more about our bodies than King David could ever have known. On our television news every few days, results of research are shared that often in say 3-5 years there is going to be another benefit to our bodies and assist its healing, and this is just related to the physical aspect of our body.
PAUL TELLS US OUR BODY IS ONE PART OF A TRINITY THAT MAKES UP MAN
Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ 1 Thessalonians 5:23 NKJV
MAN IS BODY SOUL & SPIRIT. These three parts are all extremely important especially in relation to our spiritual life, and we need to understand as much as we can about these parts and what makes up each part so that we can co-operate with the Holy Spirit so that we can become the person that God has planned for us to become.
I have reversed the order in this blog to the words of Paul, as I think it will help us as we consider the importance of this ESSENTIAL TRUTH.
Paul prays that the these 3 parts (Body, Soul, Spirit) would be completely SANCTIFIED The AMPLIFIED translation saysAnd may the God of peace Himself sanctify you through and through [separate you from profane things, make you pure and wholly consecrated to God]; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved sound and complete [and found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah). We are to be SEPARATED FROM THE POLLUTION AND PROFANITY OF THIS WORLD. That these three parts should be wholly consecrated and set apart exclusively for the Master’s use. This is such a challenge to us, I now pray daily that the Lord would truly sanctify these three areas inn my life.
There are some teachers who say man is not 3 parts but only two, and this is based on Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart NKJV Remember John stated we must walk in the Light of the Word & our conscience, here the Author again says it is all about the Word of God and its role of dividing the soul and the spirit of man.
FOR EASE OF TEACHING WE WILL LOOK AT MAN IN THESE THREE PARTS
In this introductory blog I will lay out the components that make up these three parts
THE BODY
Has five senses: SEEING, HEARING, TOUCHING, TASTING, SMELLING
Has three basic drives: HUNGER, SEX, SELF PRESERVATION
THE SOUL (is made up of) :
The MIND, the WILL, the EMOTIONS
THE SPIRIT
INTUITION, CONSCIENCE COMMUNION
