5 IMPORTANT WORDS STARTING WITH W (3)

By John Ollis

The next word I want to comment on is WORSHIP,  I sure don’t want this blog to be controversial, but there are so many concepts about this topic, I personally have had to totally re-think this important truth in my own life, so I trust my thought will assist you and not confuse you. Firstly, God wants us to be worshippers: John 4:24 NKJV God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” So every Believer is called to be a worshipper, not just a praiser !!!
For so many worship is a style or a methodology, and so we develop a strong like for a style, and can just as easily develop a strong dislike for a certain style. I heard someone say quite recently “I don’t like happy/clappy worship”, others do not like “Liturgical worship”, I personally have loved a particular form of Charismatic worship and much as I really loved it, I had to come and see that is was simply a form or style let me say again these are styles not worship as such. Jesus says in John 4:24  that Biblical worship flows out of the human spirit (Undoubtedly assisted and anointed by the Holy Spirit), and it must be based on understanding of what worship is so it must be rooted in the truth that is found in the Word of God.
There is no doubt worship that flows from the soul and or  the body, but that is NOT Biblical Worship and that is acceptable to God.

SO WHAT IS WORSHIP?

This is my simple definition is:  EXPRESSIONS OF LOVE THAT FLOW FROM THE HEART
The Scriptures clearly indicate that worship means  loving, blessing adoring, magnifying, to prostrate before, to reverence, to kiss, all firstly expressions of the heart, and how you physically express them is between you and your Lord and Saviour.
Let me remind you, we need to prepare our hearts to worship, with
Confession & Repentance 1 John 1:9
Constant Surrender Romans 12:1
Thanksgiving Psalm 100:4
Praise Psalm 100:4
Worship (between the wings of the Cherebim) Psalm 80:1)
So may we put the spotlight on what Biblical Worship is and express it from a pure heart, and not be caught up with styles and methods.
I hope this blog has assisted you, please feel free to comment.
May you have a blessed time in church this weekend as you see to worship the Lord in spirit and in truth.
