THE UNCHANGING PROMISES OF AN UNCHANGING GOD.

By John Ollis

As you sit (or kneel) in the Lord’s presence each day and seek to have quality time with Him, do you sometimes become overwhelmed at His greatness. Theologians tells us that God has three very special attributes. I would like to emphasise these today, and trust it will help you want to simply bow down and worship Him. Our God is:

OMNIPOTENT. He is the most powerful being in the universe.

OMNIPRESENT, He is everywhere present at the same time.

Omniscient. He is all seeing and all knowing, God is never surprised at anything that happens in our world, He truly is a Sovereign God.

I wrote in FB yesterday “I AM SO PLEASED JESUS IS CONSISTENTLY UNCHANGING, HIS PROMISES NEVER FAIL.

I love this statement in The Westminster Shorter Catechism defining the definition of God.

GOD IS MERELY AN ENUMERATION OF HIS ATTRIBUTES. “GOD IS A SPIRIT,INFINITE UNCHANGEABLE IN HIS BEING, WISDOM, POWER, HOLINESS, JUSTICE, GOODNESS AND TRUTH”.

To me the key word in this statement is UNCHANGEABLE. The seven things enumerated here, His being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness and truth, all fall comfortably in what we call His attributes. Every one of the seven has touched us personally, and will continue to touch and effect right throughout eternity.

Can I ask you to meditate on these seven aspects, very soon you will just have to bow down and begin to worship the Lord.

One of the many aspects of this truth that has been reinforced in my life in recent days by the Holy Spirit is God’s unchangeableness when it comes to His PROMISES. There will be some repetition in this blog, but I am sure it is good for us to be reminded, and as the hymnwriter declares “Tell me the story often for I forget so soon”. I believe it was Luther who had to say I need to preach these truths every week because God’s people so quickly forget.

I don’t know about you, but I sure fail the Lord a lot, but because of His unchangeableness, God continues to forgive us when we confess and repent. I sure relate to the Psalmist in Psalm 130:3-4 NKJV If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord who could stand? But there is forgiveness with you, that you may be feared.
We often like to quote 1 John 1:9 AMP (A word to Believers) If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just (true to His own NATURE and PROMISES) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and [continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action].

WHY ?? Hebrews 13:8 AMP Jesus Christ (the Messiah) is [always] the same, yesterday, today, [yes] and forever (to the ages). MESSAGE For Jesus doesn’t change—yesterday, today, tomorrow, he’s always totally himself.

But let us not forget that God’s Grace is not simply PARDON, but also POWER TO LIVE A HOLY LIFE. Eph. 3:20-21 AMP Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]—
To Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen (so be it). Paul tells us in Phil. 1:6 AMP And I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He Who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ [right up to the time of His return], developing [that good work] and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you.

The more we let the Holy Spirit be PRESIDENT in our life, God’s UNCHANGING PROMISES guarantee us victory and holiness in our lives.

Can we declare: GOD SAID IT, I BELIEVE IT, THAT SETTLES IT.

What is the challenge to all of us today, IT IS TIME TO BE MORE LIKE MARY AND LESS LIKE MARTHA. Luke 10:40 AMP But Martha [overly occupied and too busy] was distracted with much serving; and she came up to Him and said, Lord, is it nothing to You that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me [to lend a hand and do her part along with me]!

It is time to SLOW DOWN AND SMELL THE ROSES, in other words, spend more time meditating on the unchanging promises of an UNCHANGING GOD.

I trust this simple meditation will be a blessing to you.

MAY OUR UNCHANGING GOD, CONTINUE TO KEEP CHANGING US INTO HIS LIKENESS AMEN.
