SOME THOUGHTS FROM ROMANS 8:26-31.

By John Ollis

Most Christians seem to quickly hear and love, and often learn by heart Romans 8:28NKJV And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. The AMP N.T. says We are assured and know that [God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose.

It is so important that as a young Christian we learn this glorious truth, that nothing happens by accident in our lives, but every situation comes to us with God’s permission, and that God wants to use these situations for our spiritual good, the key for us is that we RESPOND and not react when these often negative things happen. but that God has a plan which Paul expresses in verse 33.

Romans 8:28 articulates complete truth in this single verse, and we are NOT taking it out of context when we use it, to highlight a situation that is going on in our lives.

Equally this verse is also part of a special package of truth that Paul was bringing to the attention of the Roman church, beginning back in verse 26 thru verse 31. Let us look at these verses.

Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

I have on numerous occasions highlighted verses 36-27, where Paul encourages us to PRAY IN THE SPIRIT, letting the Holy Spirit pray through us, as there are many times and situations we simply do not know how to pray, (as is mentioned in verse 28) but the Holy Spirit knows the mind of God and as we let the Holy Spirit lead us when we pray and especially use our prayer language, and as the AMP N.T. says in verse 26 But the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance. There are also times I am sure when we so want to grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, but because of perhaps fears and doubts and not knowing how to grow we let the Holy Spirit pray through us.

Paul, in verse 29 reminds us of God’s Omniscience, (all seeing and all knowing) and because HE knows EVERYTHING ABOUT EVERYTHING, He predestines us
