TURNING A NOBODY INTO A SOMEBODY

By John Ollis

I don’t know about you, but when I read Paul’s words i 1 Cor. 1:27-28 NKJV I get very encouraged. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; And the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, The MESSAGE Bible expresses it this way. Isn’t it obvious that God deliberately chose men and women that the culture overlooks and exploits and abuses, chose these “nobodies” to expose the hollow pretensions of the “somebodies”?

When I read these words I am also reminded of a British Minister of the Gospel by the name of Smith Wigglesworth, born in 1859 into a godly Methodist family, as a young person he was born again, and was baptised in a Baptist church, much of his early Bible understanding was as a result of attending a Brethren Assembly. I am assuming his family was very poor, although he must have been good with his hands, as he became a Plumber, but it was only after he was married with his wife’s help he learnt to read and especially read the Bible.

We often stand in awe as we hear or read about many great men & women of God, but it also good to look at their past and see what God has done in their lives to bring them to that place where as Paul describes were once a NOBODY BUT GOD MADE THEM A SOMEBODY.

Another British Minister who knew Wigglesworth well (by the name of Stanley Frodsham) was also a prolific writer and he wrote Wigglesworth’s biography which he entitled THE APOSTLE OF FAITH. I would suggest you consider buying and reading this book as it will both bless you and challenge you to move deeper in your walk with God.

Many times I have asked the question in my blogs: HOW DO WE GET FAITH? and the answer is found in Rom. 10:17 NKJV So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

I have often said it is not simply reading the Bible but also MEDITATING ON IT, so that the written word becomes a living personal word, and Paul uses the word RHEMA (for the word) in this verse

Smith Wigglesworth was such a man of faith, not only experiencing healing for himself, but also saw probably many many thousands healed by the power of God, and even saw people raised from the dead, (that may cause you to want to read his biography and learn more about him).

Just a few days ago I read a statement by Wigglesworth that reinforces all the above: it is this:

THERE ARE FOUR THINGS WE NEED TO MAINTAIN:

FIRST, READ THE WORD OF GOD

SECOND, CONSUME THE WORD OF GOD UNTIL IT CONSUMES YOU

THIRD, BELIEVE THE WORD OF GOD

FOURTH, ACT ON THE WORD.

You may not called to be a fivefold ministry, like an Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor or Teacher, you may simply be called to be a doorkeeper and say with the Psalmist in Psalm 84:10 NKJ For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than dwell in the tents of wickedness.

God wants all His children to become SOMEBODIES IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD, and Paul gives us the answer we need to become a man or woman of FAITH, we must fall in love with the Word of God and as Wigglesworth said LET THE WORD OF GOD CONSUME US, and we will see the WORD OF GOD WORK IN US AND THROUGH US.

Can I have your comments please ?
