By John Ollis

For some years now I have had to use hearing aids, as slowly my hearing has deteriorated, and often I have to ask Margaret to repeat something as I just hear sounds, and sometimes I do not hear clearly or correctly and misinterpret what has been said. There are at least 2 reasons that I am aware of why this happens, (1) I get a build up of wax in my ears, as well as (2) the hearing problem.
I want to be able to declare like the Psalmist in Psalm 85:8 NKJV I will hear what God the Lord will speak, for He will speak peace to His people and to His saints.
The N.I.V. says I listen carefully to what God the Lord is saying, for He speaks peace to His faithful people.
I have a special spray I put in my ears to deal with the wax, and daily I repent and confess any sins in my life so that there is no “spiritual wax” in my ears that will hinder me hearing God’s voice.
Included in my repenting is asking the Lord to deal with my motives and attitudes, and I guess I could add personal agendas, because when the Lord speaks to us, we must NOT filter what we hear the Lord say, through our own personal motives, attitudes and agendas. We must EVERY time the Lord speaks to us be 100% sure it is the Lord, and that what we believe he says LINES UP WITH THE WORD OF GOD. This means I must ever deepen my relationship and intimacy with the Lord, for as Paul says in 2 Cor. 14:10 KJV There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.
I had a church member years ago say to me, God has told me, I can have the next 4 Sundays off from church and have a rest, I immediately said, that wasn’t God, for we as Heb. 10:25 NKJV not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
A Pastor friend had an “evangelist” visit him in his office one day offering his services for an evangelistic outreach, my friend’s office was on the first floor, and it overlooked the car park, the “evangelist” said, “see that car down there, the woman sitting in the front seat, isn’t my wife, but God told me we could live together”, my friend said GET OUT.
A common example is a Christian falls in love with an unbeliever, and often will say, “I believe he/she will be saved, and I feel God is telling me it is ok to marry, I have such “peace” about it!!!!!
I sincerely believe God wants to speak to us EVERY DAY especially through His Word, I have said many times, never open your Bible until you have prayed and prepared your heart, then slowly meditate on His Word, and it will become a RHEMA (PERSONAL) WORD TO YOU.
And as the Psalmist says in Psalm 85:8 your heart will be flooded afresh with His peace. and you hear and listen and obey His Word. Amen I want to have 20/20 spiritual hearing don’t you?
