A WORD TO EVERY BELIEVER

By John Ollis

Can I ask you a couple of questions please ?
1, Has your understanding of Biblical Truth grown since you have been a Christian?
Your immediate response should be “of course what a silly question”. I equally wonder though if you have any regrets that your understanding was impeding by your lack of obedience at times?
I have been meditating on Luke 6:47 NKJV where Jesus was speaking about foundations. He says Whoever comes to Me, and HEARS My sayings and DOES them, I will show you whom he is like.
The NLT says I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, LISTENS to my teaching, and then FOLLOWS IT (practice it).
I have highlighted two words in this verse HEARING & DOING.
It is one thing to hear naturally, but it sure is another thing to hear spiritually, in Revelation  chapters 2 & 3 Jesus says seven times:
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches, often our spiritual ears are blocked (because of sin) and we do not hear!!!!!!!
Then when we have heard (spiritually) we must obey, do it, follow it, practice it, sadly the Word of the Lord  often must come a second, third, maybe many times before we get the message and obey.
Next question
2. Can you say that you now have “all the truth?
This time your response will probably “of course not”. I trust that is truly your response. Sadly, there are so many Believers and Teachers especially  who think they have arrived and what they believe is totally and utterly what the Word of God teaches. I think this is a dangerous place to be in and I will tell you why?
Jesus said in John 16:13 AMP N.T. But when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth). For He will not speak His own message [on His own authority]; but He will tell whatever He hears [from the Father; He will give the message that has been given to Him], and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come [that will happen in the future].
The MESSAGE Bible says But when the Friend comes, the Spirit of the Truth, he will take you by the hand and guide you into all the truth there is. He won’t draw attention to himself, but will make sense out of what is about to happen and, indeed, out of all that I have done and said.
We all agree that understanding the truths of the Word of God is a progressive experience, and God through the Holy Spirit is continuing to shine light on the Word of God. I  wonder if we will ever know “all truth” this side of eternity. Many of us my be surprised in eternity and find we didn’t have it all correct.
May I add here another reason we need Mentors to speak into our lives, not only when we may need a personal adjustment, but sometimes we need an adjustment on what we believe, as we must watch carefully and serious that we are as  Paul said to Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:15 NKJV Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, RIGHTLY DIVIDING THE WORD OF TRUTH.
We MUST NOT let our personal biases regarding truth, or the teachings of our favourite teacher convince us, but do as Jesus directed in John 5:39 NKJV You SEARCH the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. LET US SEARCH AND DIG AND KEEP ON SEARCHING.
Sadly the evil one would also  seek to “deceive” Believers, that is why we must learn to correctly interpret the Word of God.
Paul expresses his concern when he writes to the church at Ephesus in 4:14 concerned about the danger of being “tossed and blown about by every wind of doctrine.
MAY THE LORD HELP TO KNOW WHAT IS TRUTH AMEN.
There is another reason I have written the above, as I have seen numerous statements of late from “Teachers” who are so “closed minded” that anyone who does not agree with their particular school of thought they call them “false teachers” and it is often written in a very un Christlike way.
Amongst my readers there will be many who  have different beliefs and opinions to me for example, and that is ok. My Pastoral concern is that we respond to each other and to Ministries who we do not agree with  in a Christlike way, I will say, speaking generally much of the criticism and condemnation I have read has come from those who do not believe in the present move of the Holy Spirit, but surely it is not just what we say, but how we say it. There are sadly some wrong teachings (or unbalanced teaching in this movement, for example an international Evangelist in the last few weeks has recently re-canted his belief in the “Prosperity Gospel”, I was pleased to read that.

SO WHAT MUST OUR RESPONSE BE TO THOSE WHO BELIEVE DIFFERENTLY?

Jesus speaking to His disciples said in Matt. 25:40 NKJV Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’
1 Chron. 16:22 NKJV says “Do not touch My anointed ones, and do my prophets no harm”.
Let us not criticise and condemn Ministries that you do not agree with,
PRAY FOR THEM, AND ASK THE LORD TO SPEAK TO THEM.
What do you think ????????????
