By John Ollis

I entitled this series of blogs “Basic Military Training for the Believer,” because Paul highlights 6 out of the seven weapons we need to deal with our common enemy that also relate to to what a Roman soldier wore.

We have looked at:

The Helmet of Salvation

The Breastplate of Righteousness

The Belt (or Skirt of Truth)

The Shoes of Peace

The Shield of Faith

We now come to highlight the last piece of Roman armour, and yet in a real sense have alluded to it in virtually in every blog dealing with all the other pieces of armour. Paul says in Eph. 6:17 NKJV Take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

AMP. N.T. Take the sword that the Spirit wields, which is the Word of God.

PASSION And take the mighty razor-sharp Spirit-sword of the spoken Word of God.

MESSAGE God’s Word is an indispensable weapon.

The Greek word Paul uses in verse 17 for the Word is RHEMA.

In our last blog, we wrote about the Shield of Faith, and we were reminded that Faith comes through the Rhema Word Rom. 10:17 NKJV So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the RHEMA word of God.

And everyone of these weapons, have their roots and foundations in the Word of God and especially THE RHEMA WORD OF GOD.

What a weapon God has given us, may I suggest you re-read the last blog, and let these principles and truths get deep into your Spirit. I like the Passion translation where it speaks of the Rhema Word as THE MIGHTY RAZOR-SHARP SPIRIT SWORD OF THE SPOKEN WORD OF GOD.

The devil knows the Bible (better than we) but when he is challenged with a Rhema Word (razor-sharp Spirit Sword, he has no choice but to run.

May I remind you this is how Jesus dealt with His temptations in the wilderness, each time the enemy came to Him, His response was IT IS WRITTEN Matt. 4:4, 7.10. and we read in verse 11 The devil left Him.

I trust you are convinced that if you are going to live a victorious, pure and holy life you must be a man or woman of the Word of God.

Remember, not just:

Reading the Word

Meditating on the Word

Looking at other translations

Praying “Lord turn the light on” and note it is the Sword of the SPIRIT, so let me encourage you (as you are reading and meditating) to PRAY IN THE SPIRIT, use your Prayer language OFTEN AND MUCH, and the Word of God will mightily come alive and GOD WILL SPEAK TO YOU. The Logos will become a Rhema Word, and in that moment of warfare when you speak the Rhema Word to him (run him through with your Sword) the enemy is driven back.

This blog now concludes the 6 pieces of armour, used by a Roman soldier, and we will look deeply at the 7th piece of spiritual armour found in Eph. 6:18, I think we will need 2 or 3 more blogs on this essentail truth.
