THE CHURCH MUST HAVE A DISCIPLESHIP PROGRAM
In the Great Commission Jesus commanded the disciples “to make disciples” (not just to get people to make decisions and pray the sinner’s prayer. We have talked previously about Bosko ministry John 21:15&17. the need to walk with the new believer and to see him established in his faith and growing in grace towards maturity. Discipleship very much includes teaching, but teaching alone is not enough, for example teaching about prayer will not make a new Christian a pray-er, but if we walk with them, prayer will become a lifestyle. Jesus prayed in John 15 that none of the disciples would be lost, if we want quality disciples who do not fall away we must Bosko them.
Jesus goes on in Matthew 28 and says to continue to teach the new believers all that He had taught them.
THE CHURCH MUST HAVE A TEACHING MINISTRY/PROGRAM.
The Sunday morning sermon will not keep the sheep satisfied until next Sunday, In the teaching program we MUST teach the sheep how to feed themselves, as well as teaching them all the important truths of the Word of God like:
What we believe and why?
What about the Second Coming of Christ?
How do I build a Christian family ?
How do I run my business?
What is my ministry ? Have I a place to serve in the Body ?
What does the Bible say about the Person, the gifts, the works of the Holy Spirit?
What does the Bible say about ??? this list will go on continuously.
We need to cultivate a spiritual appetite in the believers, so they are ever hungry for more, and maintain a teachable spirit. Believers who are flexible and open to what is God is saying to His church, but not gullible to every latest whim that comes through the Body of Christ. To look for what is definitely what God is saying and doing, sadly not to be stumbled by the excesses, but look for and embrace what is of the Lord.
Discipleship & Teaching are 2 essential keys to building the local church according to the pattern of the Word of God.
