SO WHAT IS PENTECOST SUNDAY ALL ABOUT ? FOR THE CHURCH

By John Ollis

Pentecost Sunday is the birthday of the Christian Church. The results of that spiritual birth was simply miraculous. On the very first day 3000 became believers, soon it was 5000. Addition moved to multiplication. persecution forced most of the believers out of Jerusalem and they went to everywhere “gossiping” witnessing the message of Jesus.

So much so,  it was said they turned the known world upside down.

I love Church History, and it records many exciting things down through the centuries. but also records so much that was far from exciting. Error quickly entered the Church, man made methods started to weaken the church, personal negative behaviour of many Leaders also influenced the Church. The Church eventually split giving us the Western and Eastern Churches. They slowly moved into the Dark Ages, until God raised up men like Martin Luther and John Calvin who sought to bring the Church back to the Word of God. Slowly but surely God restored truth back to the Church. Truths like:

Water Baptism

Holiness

Missions

Evangelism

The Local Church

Divine Healing

And so much more. but in every generation, there is a slipping back and a real neglect of these important foundations. Sadly, the biggest neglect is the person and Work of the Holy Spirit. It has been said you could remove the Holy Spirit from the Church and He wouldn’t be missed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are many reasons why the Holy Spirit is neglected:

There is Fear

There is Ignorance

Some have had a bad experience in the past, or know of others who have had bad experiences.

There have been the excesses and fanaticism, and so we withdraw and neglect and reject.

IT IS TIME WE TAKE A FRESH LOOK AT THE HOLY SPIRIT AND LET HIM WORK IN US AND IN HIS CHURCH.

Some of us pastors have been asking the question now for some months as we gather together on a Friday morning “Where will the Church be in 10 years time ?? and the reality is , we wonder if there will be a Church, unless we let the Holy Spirit do what only he can do. We need to see REVIVAL, and the Holy Spirit is the author of revival, May we cooperate with the Holy Spirit, may we get out of the way, may we recognise that “without Him we can do nothing”, but with Him we can do “all things”.

Let us take the opportunity to reassess this Sunday, where we are at personally and as a church, and make some important decisions to get back to the Word of God, to build the Church God’s way, and to give him all the praise and glory.

I trust these last 3 blogs have made you think, I trust it is a challenge, and has been a blessing to you, and we all decide to see CHANGE place in our personal lives and in in our church.

Please respond and let me know your thoughts. God bless you.  THE BEST IS YET TO COME.
