HOW A CHRISTIAN CAN BE MORE LIKE JESUS

By John Ollis

WHAT IS A CHRISTIAN?

There are so many definitions of a what a Christian is today such as:
I was born into a “Christian home”
I am part of a “Christian” community (as opposed to a Muslim or Buddhist community).
I go to church
I believe in  God
The dictionary definition of a “Christian” is A FOLLOWER OF CHRIST
I heard a Preacher say years ago a good definition is A LITTLE CHRIST.
At our Pastor’s meeting this morning one of the Pastors said he asked a young woman recently “Was she a “Christian”, her response was “yes I am, but I do my own thing”.
This generation has a multitude of ideas of what a “Christian” is.
As an Evangelical Christian my definition of a Christian is this:
A person who recognises they are a sinner, and repents of their sin and asks the Lord Jesus Christ to come into their life. That person knows they have become a Christian because on the inside they have ASSURANCE that their prayer was heard and they know (because they know) they are forgiven and are on the way to heaven. God’s DNA  is now part of their life and they want to live according to God’s Word and please the Lord.
Jesus says “If you love me keep my commandments” John 14:15

YOU CAN’T BE A CHRISTIAN AND DO YOUR OWN THING.

A new Christian has a desire to learn and are teachable, that is why the Church and every Believer must fulfil the Great Commission and make the new Believer a DISCIPLE.
The new Christian needs to spend time with the Disciplemaker   and learn the First Principles of the Christian life such as:
Learning to pray spending time with the lover of their soul
Learning to “feed themselves” firstly on the milk of the Word and to graduate to the meat of the Word.
To surrender their life TOTALLY to the Lord and let the Holy Spirit “fill the house”  and to learn to make the Spirit filled life  their constant lifestyle, To lay hold of the Holy Spirit’s gifts, and regularly use their PRAYER LANGUAGE.
To get “planted” in a local church and be committed to it and to serve the Lord there.
Through these things the new believer begins to “grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ” 2 Peter 3:18.

HOW TO BECOME MORE LIKE JESUS

“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, as being TRANSFORMED into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord” 2 Cor. 3:18.
An important part of the Discipleship program, a new disciple is taught all the components of prayer which includes WORSHIP which means to bow down (prostrate yourself) and to adore (literally fall in love and kiss) the Lord. Here Paul tells us that:

THE MORE TIME WE SPEND IN WORSHIP THE MORE WE ARE CHANGED INTO THE LIKENESS OF JESUS.

We know the old saying “we become like the people we spend the most time with”.
The message of this blog is:

TO FALL IN LOVE WITH JESUS AND SPEND REGULAR DAILY TIME WITH THE LOVER OF YOUR SOUL

You will start singing the old chorus
I keep falling in love with Him  over and over and over again
I keep falling in love with Him over and over again
He gets sweeter and sweeter as the days go by
Oh what love between my Lord and I
Just as you tell your spouse EVERY DAY  I LOVE YOU, I encourage/challenge you to start telling Jesus EVERY DAY JESUS I LOVE YOU.   My number one desire is:

I WANT PEOPLE TO SEE JESUS IN ME DO YOU ??????
