SOME HOMEWORK FOR YOU

By John Ollis

My heart has really been stirred recently about the place God’s Word should play in our lives. There is no doubt it must come as a strong revelation to God’s people, all the Discipleship teaching in the world will not make us fully respond until we have that 18 inch drop from head to heart, and the information truly becomes revelation.

I highlighted in “Search the Scriptures” 6 blog Psalm 119:161-162 NKJV My heart stands in awe of Your word. I rejoice at your Word as one who finds great spoil. The MESSAGE SAYS I’m ecstatic over what you say, like one who strikes it rich.   I then related the illustration of the two gold prospectors in Australia who discovered a piece of gold which weighed 98+ kgs. and now valued at A$3.8 million, the gold became known as the “Welcome Stranger” these gold prospectors were ecstatic and I am sure I would have been if it had been me. The Psalmist says we are to be (at least) as excited when we come to the Word of God as if we have found great treasure. May I ask you a personal question? Can you relate to what the Psalmist says,  How excited are you when you come to spend time in the Word of God? I must be honest and say it is often not my experience, yet here I am on this side of the Cross, knowing and experiencing the fruits of the New Covenant, in many ways I  have more to be thankful for than the Psalmist, so what is the answer?

Last Sunday I gave the church some homework to do for the next two weeks, that may help them and me to get more excited about the Word of God
1.PRAY
(a) For the Lord to help us
(b) For the Lord to give us a greater hunger for His Word
(c) To be more disciplined
2. NOT TO OPEN OUR BIBLES UNTIL WE HAD FIRST PREPARED OUR HEARTS  THROUGH PRAYER
3. SPEND AT LEAST TWO WEEKS MEDITATING IN PSALM 119, (The Psalm of the Word) looking CLOSELY AND MEDITATING on  every verse that mentions
Word, Law, Commandments, Statutes, Testimonies, Precepts, Truth, one of these WORDS
is mentioned constantly through the Psalm
3. ASK THE LORD “Turn the light on” and give you revelation.
4. LET THE HOLY SPIRIT MAKE EVERY VERSE A RHEMA WORD TO YOU.
5. DON’T RUSH, TAKE IT VERY SLOWLY CHEWING OVER EVERY WORD
6. LET US BELIEVE TOGETHER THE BIBLE IS GOING TO COME ALIVE AND WE WILL BE ECSTATIC
Then after two weeks choose a book to meditate in (over and above your daily reading)
For example The Book of Romans
Chapter one verse one on the first day, look at it in a couple of translations and again ask the Holy Spirit to “turn the light on”, then the next day verse 2.
Let us believe that like the Psalmist WE WILL REJOICE AT GOD’S WORD AS IF WE HAVE DISCOVERED GREAT TREAURE AMEN
