WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HAPPENING?

By John Ollis

We have watched on out tv screens almost with horror of the devastating weather that has been occurring around the world. 45 degrees Fahrenheit below freezing in the USA. We experienced here in our area last week a number of days of 45 degrees Celsius heat which was very debilitating.

In Tasmania we have bush fires that have been burning for many weeks. In the north of our country the Monsoon rains have broken record after record and causing tremendous flooding. I could go on and on and mention Tsunami”s Earthquakes and many other phenomena. What in the world is happening???????

What of the political tensions in the Middle East and in Eastern Europe ? All these things are signs clearly prophesied in the Word of God that would precede the return of the Lord Jesus Christ for His Church.

There have been tens if not hundred of millions of words written and spoken about all these signs and many more. Sadly, not all that has been said and written has been true, so I am very careful what I say on the issue.

Except to say it is blindingly obvious we are closer to the Lord’s return than at any time in history. I suggest there is one thing we need, we read about it in 1 John 3:2-3 NKJV Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this HOPE in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

We need a HOPE born of the Holy spirit, that JESUS IS COMING SOON. As John says it will change our behaviour and lifestyle, we will desire (again this is born of the Holy Spirit) to live holy, pure, sanctified lives.

The attitude of too many Believers is that they are living for the now, and are not seeking in every way possible to live a pure holy life, but when God puts a hope in our lives EVERYTHING IS CHANGED, including our lifestyle.

This is a tension that Believers must live with, that Jesus could even return TODAY, yet, one must develop a career, marry, have children, buy a house etc etc. We can only do this if the Holy Spirit has put that hope in our hearts, and we daily feed that hope in prayer and the Word and fellowship with God’s people.

Simultaneously we are in the world and cannot and must not withdraw from it, but be busy in the Kingdom seeking to fulfil the Great Commission and God’s calling on our lives, it a challenge, but if the Word of God says that is how we are to live, then God will give us His grace to do it, and to do it well.

I don’t know about you, but I am looking for the UPPER TAKER, not the undertaker.
