DO YOU WANT TO HAVE THE BLESSINGS OF ABRAHAM ON YOUR LIFE?

By John Ollis

We know FOUNDATIONS are essential whether it be in relation to a building, or an organisation or relative to a person. I want us to look at the foundations that were laid in Abraham’s life so that we could receive the blessings that flowed out of his life. as Paul declares, and tells us the glorious promise in Gal. 3:13-14 NKJV Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that THE BLESSING OF ABRAHAM might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

In verse 13 Paul highlights our glorious Salvation purchased for us by Jesus, AMP N.T, says Christ purchased our freedom [redeeming us] from the curse (doom) of the Law [and its condemnation] by [Himself] becoming a curse for us, for it is written [in the Scriptures], Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree (is crucified); Jesus paid the price through His blood to release us from the curse of the law, so that we can now be candidates to receive the BLESSING OF ABRAHAM.

SO WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM ABRAHAM’S LIFE?

In Genesis 12:1-3 NKJV we read about God’s call to Abraham

Now the Lord had said to Abram:
“Get out of your country,
From your family
And from your father’s house,
To a land that I will show you.
I will make you a great nation;
I will bless you
And make your name great;
And you shall be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you,
And I will curse him who curses you;
And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

Verse 4 suggests that virtually instantly Abraham RESPONDED & OBEYED.

If we want the blessing of God on our lives we need:

(a) To have ears to hear God’s voice

(b) A willingness to respond to God’s voice.

On the journey we read OFTEN Abraham regularly did a number of things.

  1. He pitched his tent
  2. He built an altar
  3. He called on the Name of the Lord.

Here are three more keys we can learn from Abraham if we are to receive the blessing of God on our lives.

Abraham had lived in the idolatrous (and religious) city of the Ur of the Chaldees, and he would have constantly been confronted with idolatrous religious activity, so he understood certain religious practices, but I believe The Holy Spirit led him to do these 3 things.

1, A tent is a temporary structure that could easily be moved from place to place, Abraham refused to SETTLE DOWN, and was willing to constantly PULL UP TENT PEGS and continue to move on in obedience to God.

2. Am ALTAR always speaks of SACRIFICE & WORSHIP, under the New Covenant we (as priests) are called to OFFER SPIRITUAL SACRIFICES (including our bodies Rom. 12:1) 1 Peter 2:5 NKJV You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Jesus calls us to become WORSHIPPERS John 4:24 NKJV God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

3. The Holy Spirit had revealed that this was the TRUE & LIVING GOD, who had revealed Himself to Abraham, and the Holy Spirit, taught him to become a MAN OF PRAYER.

Let me list these foundations again for you, for I would suggest if you want to be a recipient of the BLESSINGS OF ABRAHAM these need to be essential planks in your spiritual foundations.

Are you learning to hear the voice of God?

Are you learning to live a life of surrender and constantly obey the Holy Spirit’s promptings?

Are you refusing to settle down, and seek to keep disciplined and pressing in and forward in the purposes of God?

Are you “falling in love” with Jesus more and more as you deepen your intimacy with the Lord?

Are you praying and asking the Lord to teach you how to pray, and daily CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD?

I would suggest you are guaranteed the BLESSINGS OF ABRAHAM on your life if you seek to develop and continue to do these things.
