DO YOU WANT TO BE ANOINTED WITH FRESH OIL?
My readers know how I love the development of truth in the Old Testament into the New Testament, even many symbols in the O.T. come alive in the New Testament. One for example is “ANOINTING WITH OIL”. Right from the Book of Genesis we read about anointing with oil, both on inanimate objects as well as people. My Bible Dictionary tells me that the “anointing” SEPERATED things and people for and to God.
It was a sign of BESTOWAL OF DIVINE FAVOUR, and an APPOINTMENT TO A SPECIAL FUNCTION. For example Prophets, Priests and Kings were all anointed to clearly declare their appointment to their special office.
One example I will mention here was the anointing of David the Shepherd to be King, we read this in 1 Samuel 16:13 NKJV Then Samuel took the horn of oil and ANOINTED him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah. Here we clearly see in this experience of David the relationship between the act of anointing and the Presence and power of the Holy Spirit.
When we come to the New Testament we clearly see when it comes to people especially OIL IS A TYPE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. We read in Luke 4:18-19 NKJV Jesus standing in the Synagogue in Nazareth and He was handed the scroll (of Isaiah’s writings to read, THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD is upon Me,
Because He has ANOINTED Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” He then closed the scroll and said, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
As we move into the New Testament and into the New Covenant we see more and more the PERSON & WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT being manifest in numerous ways upon all His people, not Just Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists. and Pastors & Teachers.
PEOPLE WERE BEING SEPERATED AND CONSECRATED TO MINISTRY
THERE WAS THE BESTOWAL OF DIVINE FAVOUR
THERE WAS APPOINTMENT TO A SPECIAL FUNCTION.
In the Old Testament The Holy Spirit would come upon certain individuals. but in the New Testament it is the privilege of EVERY BELIEVER to know this anointing continually.
Over 60 years after the death and resurrection and ascension of Jesus the Apostle John declares in 1 John 2:20& 27 these glorious words.
verse 20 NKJV says But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.
The NLT says But you are not like that, for the Holy One has given you his Spirit, and all of you know the truth.
The Holy Spirit wants to lead us into ALL TRUTH John 16:13.
verse 27 NKJV But the ANOINTING which you have received from Him ABIDES in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.
The moment we were born again the Holy Spirit came into our life, and He does not come and go but ABIDES continually in us hallelujah, we now have a permanent TEACHER living in us, He wants to TUTOR us every day, but John echoing the words of Jesus John 8:31-32 NKJV If you ABIDE in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” then, John 15:4 NKJV ABIDE in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
We sure need a Discipler to walk with us to help us and teach us how to ABIDE (to continue, to dwell, to remain, to endure) in the Lord, and prepare our hearts each day to receive the Word and let it work in us.
I want to conclude this simple blog from a verse in the Psalms and then pass it through the Cross and apply New Covenant truth to it,
Psalm 92:10 NKJV But my horn You have exalted like a wild ox; I have been ANOINTED WITH FRESH OIL.
The MESSAGE Bible says Your ANOINTING has made me strong and mighty.
You’ve empowered my life for triumph, BY POURING FRESH OIL OVER ME.
I want to suggest to you that we who are living under the new Covenant can constantly experience that fresh oil pouring over us, Paul reminds us in Eph. 5:18 NKJV And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled (CONTINUALLY) with the Spirit,
How do we do that?
Keep short accounts with the Lord, and on the horizontal, having a spirit of repentance.
Re-affirming His Lordship over our lives
Be a worshipper
Use your prayer language EVERY DAY
spend quality time in the Word of God EVERY DAY
Simply “stay under the spout where the glory comes out”
DO THESE THINGS AND YOU WILL KNOW FRESH OIL EVERY DAY
