ARE YOU WALKING IN THE ANOINTING?

By John Ollis

I trust my last blog on God being our Shepherd was and is a blessing to you. David in Psalm 23  highlights both practical as well as spiritual components to God’s shepherding ministry towards us, may we take and enjoy all the Lord the Shepherd has for us.
I read an article recently  on a very practical thing that natural shepherds do for their sheep, which I had never heard before. The article highlighted David’s statement “You anoint my head with oil” I guess most people will immediately think of that occasion when the Prophet Samuel anointed him will oil to one day become the King of Israel, or David’s statement in Psalm 92″10b I have been anointed with fresh oil. Did David understand the anointing of the Holy Spirit as we understand it today under the New Covenant? I don’t know.
This article I read was all about the practical use of anointing a sheep’s head with oil.
Sheep can get their head caught in the briars and die trying to get untangled, There are also horrible little flies that like to torment sheep by laying eggs in their nostrils which turn into worms and drive the sheep to beat their head against a rock sometimes to death. Their ears and eyes are also susceptible to tormenting insects. So the shepherd anoints their whole head with oil. Then there is peace. The oil forma a barrier of protection against the evil that tries to destroy the sheep. Do you have times of mental torment? Do the worrisome thoughts invade your mind over and over? Do you beat your head against a wall trying to stop them? Have you ever asked God to anoint your head with oil? HE HAS AN ENDLESS SUPPLY! His oil protects and makes it possible for you to fix your heart, mind and eyes on Him today and always. There is peace in the valley! May our good good Father anoint your head with oil today so that your cup overflows with blessing! God is good and He is faithful!!-Heart Prints.
Isn’t that an interesting illustration? We as New Covenant Believers can learn to live and walk in the anointing of the Holy Spirit and be the sheep God wants us to be. Live in the anointing my friend Amen.
