LET US HIDE THE WORD IN OUR HEART

By John Ollis

I am sure every Christian who reads and loves their Bible really loves Psalm 119. It truly is THE PSALM OF THE WORD and I want to highlight verses 9-11. TODAY.

NKJV

How can a young man cleanse his way?
By taking heed according to Your word.
With my whole heart I have sought You;
Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!
Your word I have hidden in my heart,
That I might not sin against You.

N.L.T.

How can a young person stay pure?
By obeying your word.
I have tried hard to find you—
don’t let me wander from your commands.
I have hidden your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.

PASSION

How can a young man stay pure?
Only by living in the word of God and walking in its truth.
I have longed for you with the passion of my heart;
don’t let me stray from your directions!
I consider your prophecies to be my greatest treasure,
and I memorize them and write them on my heart

MESSAGE

How can a young person live a clean life?
By carefully reading the map of your Word.
I’m single-minded in pursuit of you;
don’t let me miss the road signs you’ve posted.
I’ve banked your promises in the vault of my heart
so I won’t sin myself bankrupt.

If this verse was essential when it was written thousands of years ago how much more in the 21st century. We live in a sex crazed world, where the mind and the emotions are being bombarded day and night by immoral talk and vision an inuendo.

Here the Psalmist clearly tells us if we want to live clean pure lives he must fill his heart and mind with the WORD OF GOD.

So it is not just a cursory reading of the Word, it must be meditated on, and memorized and OBEYED, as one translation says, we MUST LIVE AND WALK IN THE WORD, see it as a road map, and follow completely its directions.

A young person, not only has to contend with a sinful nature,(that he inherited from Adam) but with the development into puberty and the development of the sex drive, as well as the 24 hour mental barrage, and perhaps some bad habits he developed prior to coming to the Lord.

We know the mind is the battlefield of the soul, and every battle is won or lost in the mind., so here the Psalmist is telling us WE MUST FILL OUR MIND WITH THE WORD OF GOD.

The Psalmist also speaks here of the HEART, this is not simply the “pump” inside our chest but the very totality of our being MUST BECOME CONSUMED WITH THE WORD OF GOD.

Our sinful nature will seek to cause us to stray and wander away, and be blinded to all the road signs directing us where we need to go. So daily we need to pray and seek the Lord’s continued help that we will not wander

So, how can a young man (or anyone keep himself pure),

He must be a man of prayer

He must love the Word of God,

He must, read and meditate and memorize the Word, this I think is HIDING IT IN OUR HEART.

The Power of prayer and the power of the Word of God can keep us from sinning.

NEVER FORGET THIS MUST BECOME A LIFESTYLE.

Have a blessed awesome weekend.
