GOD’S WORD-THE BIBLE (3)

By John Ollis

I trust some folks have had a chance to read the first two blogs in this series, and checked out the Scriptures where the Bible describes it self as:

A Fire, or a Hammer, or a Lamp.

In this blog we will see the Bible describing itself as a MIRROR James 1:22-25 NKJV tells us “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does”.

We all use a mirror every day to see how we look physically. The Bible reveals to us what we are spiritually, and what we can be in God. We must learn as we spend time in the Word of God, not to believe what other people say about us, or what we may think of ourselves. Let the MIRROR OF GOD’S WORD be your guide.

The Apostle Peter describes the Word of God as MILK. we read in 1 Peter 2:2 NKJV As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the WORD, that you may grow thereby.

The author of the Book of Hebrews admonishes his readers in chapter 5:13 NKJV For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe.

We know naturally speaking that milk nourishes a baby and gives it all it needs to begin to grow and develop. This is the same with the Word of God, as we begin to spend time in the Word, just like milk is to a baby, it is milk to nourish the young in Christ.

The author of the book of Hebrews goes on and declares in Hebrews 5:14 KJV and describes the Word of God as MEAT. But strong MEAT belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

How concerned we would be as parents if our children never graduated from milk to MEAT, I have never ever said this before but CHRISTIANS MUST GRADUATE FROM MILK TO MEAT, WHY ?FOR THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A CHRISTIAN SPIRITUAL VEGETARIAN.

The Apostle John in Revelation 11:1-2 NKJV speaks of a MEASURING ROD, these verses are in relation to the Temple, but we need to to see the Bible as a MEASURING ROD, and the DIVINE STANDARD IN ALL MATTERS OF FAITH AND PRACTICE. WE then seek constantly to measure our life and walk against this standard.

So here is four more pictures we glean from the Bible to add to our understanding of the role and place of the Word of God in our daily life.

May we learn to drink the milk of the Word, but graduate to begin eating the meat of the Word, and ever praying that our hunger increases and ever seeing the Bible as a mirror, and a measuring rod to challenge us upwards and forward in the purposes of God.

I know this is a very simple series, but I trust these beautiful SYMBOLS OF THE INSPIRED BOOK will help you appreciate the unique place the Bible MUST have in our lives.

May our no.1 goal be, I WANT TO BE A MAN (OR WOMAN OF THE BOOK. AMEN.
