GOD’S WORD -THE BIBLE (9)

By John Ollis

In Psalm 19:10 NKJV King David declares God’s Word is like HONEY, that is sweet to the taste. Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb

N.L.T. They are sweeter than honey,
even honey dripping from the comb.

May the Lord help us to develop our taste buds, so we can fully appreciate the SWEETNESS of God’s Word to our spirit.

A very different symbol of the Word of is found in Ecc. 12:11 NKJV where it is described as an OX-GOAD , The words of the wise are like goads, and the words of scholars are like well-driven nails, given by one Shepherd.

This is an instrument which prods the oxen into fulfilling its duties.

AMP. O.T. The words of the wise are like prodding goads, and firmly fixed [in the mind] like nails are the collected sayings which are given [as proceeding] from one Shepherd.

N.L.T. The words of the wise are like cattle prods—PAINFUL BUT HELPFUL. Their collected sayings are like a nail-studded stick with which a shepherd drives the sheep.

MESSAGE The words of the wise prod us to live well.
They’re like nails hammered home, holding life together.
They are given by God, the one Shepherd.

I am sure we have all experienced the Ox-goad of God’s Word, sadly we have had to be PRODDED often more than once before we get the message!!!

Again, the wisest man in all the word describes the Word of God as a NAIL which we have just read in Ecc. 12:11 not only can the goad be nail studded, but we can see the Word of God as something FASTENED in a safe place, and we can safely HANG OUR LIFE ON IT.

HONEY, OX-GOAD AND NAIL, are three beautiful symbols of the Word of God, may we experience all three as required.
