GOD’S NAME AND GOD’S WORD.
Bill & Gloria Gaither have written some wonderful songs that have been a massive blessing to the Body of Christ, one that comes to mind contains the words JESUS, THERE’S JUST SOMETHING ABOUT THAT NAME, I am sure those words resonate with every Believer, not just the name but the person and His character behind the Name. I love to sing the chorus “LORD I LIFT YOUR NAME ON HIGH“, which I am sure is echoing the heart cry of the Psalmist, as God’s Name is mentioned around 100 times just in the Psalms.
The Old Testament records so many compound names of God, that helps us understand God’s character and nature towards His people, here are some to consider, such as:
El Shaddai My Supplier
Jehovah Jireh My Provider
Jehovah Ropha My Healer
Jehovah Makadesh My Sanctifer
Jehovah Nissi My Banner
Jehovah Elohim The Lord our Creator
Jehovah El Elyon The Lord most high God , the Owner
Jehovah El Olam The Lord, the everlasting
Jehovah Adonai The Lord, the Master
Jehovah Shalom, The Lord our Peace
I am sure every Believer loves the Name of our God, and so many times we have just whispered in prayer, in worship, and when we are in need, JESUS, and He has drawn near to us, and met our need.
I am reminded of another song that expresses our heart,,
Jesus is the sweetest name I know, and He’s just the same as His lovely Name,
That’s the reason why that I love Him so , for Jesus is the sweetest name I know amen.
I have said all the above about our love for God and His Name/s as I was reading a few days ago Psalm 139 and verse 2 sprang out at me in the KJV I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise Thy Name for Thy lovingkindness and for Thy truth, for Thou hast MAGNIFIED Thy Word above all Thy Name.
AMP.O.T. I will worship toward Your holy temple and praise Your name for Your loving-kindness and for Your truth and faithfulness; for You have exalted above all else Your name and Your word and You have magnified Your word above all Your name!
PASSION I bow down before your divine presence
and bring you my deepest worship
as I experience your tender love and your living truth.
For the promises of your word and the fame of your name. have been magnified above all else.
N.L.T. I praise your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness;
for your promises are backed by all the honour of Your Name.
by all the honor of your name.
If we just look at the KJV translation we could read that the Name of our God is secondary to His Word, the other translations that I have listed say much more that the God’s Name and God’s Word are equally essential, as no doubt we love and appreciation of the Word of God is increased by our our and understanding of all that is expressed in the Name/s of our God.
I thank and praise and worship out God for the excellency of His Name, just as David expresses in Psalm 139. May i suggest you mediate on the many names of our God (it is easy to find if you google it) I am sure this will increase your desire and love for the Word of God, may it always be the most important book in your life, may you have ears to hear what God wants to say to you every day, may you let THE WORD WORK IN YOUR LIFE, and may every day, it increasingly become a Sword of the Spirit to you Eph. 6>17. and may it produce faith in your heart Rom.10:17.
For so many, in so many places we included will be in lockdown tomorrow, and cannot attend a church service. We thank God for technology that gives us access to a service on line. God’s Word is not on lockdown, may we consume “The finest of the wheat and feed upon His Word, and lift God’s Name on high amen.
