THE GOOD OLD DAYS

By John Ollis

We had the privilege in the 1970’s & 80’s to pastor 2 great churches during the height of the Charismatic Renewal. We saw fantastic growth and blessing,  many people being soundly born again and discipled and many believers having their love for the Lord reignited.  It was time of the writing of 100’s of awesome songs, many totally based on the scriptures, and the birth (for us at least) of a realm of praise and worship we had never experienced before. This was one major emphasis in our ministry and it was a magnet that drew literally 100’s of people into our churches. A teenager in the 1970’s .would come to our evening service in Sydney, and whenever I see him even 40 years later he refers to those services. he is full time in music ministry today. We touched something that was very special and it was life changing. I miss those days very much.
You would have noticed the title of today’s blog, “The good old days” I am not talking about the 70’s & 80’s but the 50″s when i was born again as a 10 year old boy, and began to discover what it was to walk with the Lord, and that I could live a victorious holy life, it was in the late 1950’s I was exposed to the truth that I could be filled with the Holy Spirit, and also have a prayer language which I still seek to use every day, in praise and worship and intercession, especially as Paul says when we know not how to pray. Sadly in some parts of the Charismatic/Pentecostal world when you receive your prayer language you have arrived, it is but the gateway into an exciting realm in the Holy Spirit.
It is said that one of the signs of old age is reminiscing about the past, and I concede I am guilty of doing this, some of the songs that are coming to me these days are not the classics of the Charismatic Renewal but choruses like :
I love Him better every day, I love Him better every day
Close by His side I will abide, I love Him better every day
I searched for the author but could not find a name.

THEN

Every day with Jesus is sweeter than the day before,

Every day with Jesus I love Him more and more,

Jesus saves and keeps me, and He’s the one I’m waiting for,

Every day with Jesus is sweeter than the day before

THEN

I keep falling in love with Him, falling in love with Him,

Over and over again.

He keeps blessing me over and over again……..

He keeps cleansing me over and over again……..

Agai i could not find the authors of these last 2 songs.

I do not feel guilty about reminiscing about the past, they were great days, they were formative days in my walk with the Lord, and they were  all part of the Lord’s plan for my life. yesterday’s blog was about “It’s a new day’ and it is, we thank God for the past, we rejoice in the present, and we confess that the days that lay ahead will continue to filled with blessing, with revelation, with the grace of the Lord to continue to take us forward until we see Him face to face, for truly the King is coming and the dead in Christ will rise, and those that are alive will be caught up, corruption shall put on incorruption, mortality will put on immortality, and we will be forever with the Lord.

Do you remember some of the “old’ choruses of your youth / Do you remember the 3 listed here in this blog ? what are some of the choruses that come to your mind, would you like to share them. Let me be totally honest with you, i cannot always remember all the words, but today we can “google” them, and there is so much out there on the worldwide web, you will be surprised. I would love to hear from you even this weekend. God bless you.
