DO YOU REMEMBER THIS GOLDEN OLDIE ?

By John Ollis

He is my everything, He is my all,

He is my everything, both great and small.

He gave His life for me, made everything new,

He is my everything, Now how about you ?

LIKE HONEY IN THE ROCK. SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK,

FOR HE TASTES LIKE HONEY IN THE ROCK,

O, TASTE AND SEE THAT THE LORD IS GOOD

FOR HE TASTES LIKE HONEY IN THE ROCK.

I was reminded of this chorus when I read Psalm 81:16 NKJV  recently.

He would have fed them also with the finest of the wheat; and with honey from the rock, I WOULD HAVE SATISFIED YOU.

Asaph the Psalmist  was expressing God’s heart for  His people. He spreads an overflowing table in His banqueting House, God’s people are standing there, but there is no movement towards the table eat.  How sad !!!!!

The message Bible says You’ll feast on my freshly baked bread spread with butter and rock pure honey.

When I first went to Vietnam is the early 90″s I experienced for the first time the lovely crusty bread rolls that the Vietnamese had learnt to bake when they were under French rule. Then I discovered at home many Vietnamese bread shops, and yes Vietnamese crusty bread rolls are a favourite of mine.

Let’s go back to the verse as it is expressed in the NKJV.  How do you get the finest of the wheat ? I don’t fully understand the process, but I know the wheat is crushed very finely to make the very best flour. I am reminded that Jesus was wounded and crushed for us, and that as believers the Holy Spirit that now dwells in us because we are born again wants to give us more and more of the “Bread of Life”.Because Jesus was crushed for us, we can have the “finest of the wheat”.

It was the finest of the wheat that brought us to Christ. Peter reminds us we  were born again of that incorruptible seed which is the Word of God. It is God’s plan that DAILY we eat the finest of the wheat. When we are born, instinctively when a baby  the hunger and thirst drive  begins to operate and will begin to cry to be fed. When a person suffers with anorexia nervosa, slowly they can starve to death.

Spiritually, that is the way it is supposed to be with new born believers. We have heard of testimonies of people when they come to Christ that when they are introduced to the Bible they cannot put it down. Sadly, this seems to be the exception rather than the rule. King David challenges us (Psalm 34:8) Oh taste and see that the Lord is good.  How do we get a spiritual hunger for the Word of God ASK FOR IT, AND KEEP ON ASKING FOR IT. It is a prayer that God will ALWAYS answer.

We cannot naturally speaking go more than a few hours, and our hunger pangs kick in, yet so many believers, try and live on the Sunday morning sermon, and hope it lasts them at least until midweek Bible Study or next Sunday. Could this be why so many Christians are skinny scrawny, and literally sick.

What do I think it means, specifically when it speaks of the “finest of the wheat” I would suggest this is not just reading the Word of God, but meditating on it, so the information becomes revelation, the Logos becomes Rhema, faith is produced in our hearts. (Rom.10:17) and as Asaph says WE ARE SATISFIED. I teach annually in a  Bible School that is part of the Word of Faith movement, that particular stream in the Body of Christ major on the Rhema Word. Interestingly the Principal said to me this year when I was there, He had never heard another teacher say we could have a Rhema Word daily. I am not formally part of that movement, and was so surprised to hear that statement assuming this would have been essential regular teaching in their world.

Spiritual satisfaction is not an occasional experience, it is the privilege of believers to be satisfied EVERY DAY. Solomon is known as the wisest man who ever lived, he sure made many mistakes even with all his wisdom, but  he makes an awesome statement in Proverbs 14:14 NKJV A good man will be satisfied from above (margin) himself.

DO YOU WANT DAILY SPIRITUAL SATISFACTION ???

  1. We must have a spiritual hunger
  2. We must discipline ourselves to  set aside time to daily mediate
  3. We need to make sure there is no unconfessed sin in our lives

WHAT IS THE END RESULT?

  1. Spiritual satisfaction
  2. The Word will taste like sweet honey from a Rock
  3. We will fall in love more and lore with our Rock, even the Lord Jesus Christ.

Are any of you saying, “I have heard all this before” but are we doing it? that is the question. I know I regularly have to do what Paul did (!Cor:9.27) I discipline my body like an athlete (New Living) I buffet my body like a boxer (Amp).  The Message Bible says, v.26-27 I don’t know about you, but I am running hard to the finishing line. I’m giving it all I’ve got, no sloppy living for me. I’m staying alert and in top condition, I’m not going to get caught napping, telling everyone else about it and then missing out myself.

Let me encourage you to read this blog over again a couple of times asking the Holy Spirit to make this essential truth real to you.

Would you respond and comment about this blog please ?

MAY WE ALL DAILY EXPERIENCE SPIRITUAL SATISFACTION.
