LETTING THE HOLY SPIRIT TURN THE LIGHT ON
We believe the whole of the Bible is the inspired Word of God, and that every Believer should spend time reading all the Bible, in a systematic way and not just read the passages they like, or treat the Bible like a “lucky dip” hoping to receive a “goodie”
I have had the privilege over the years of discipling and mentoring hundreds of young men, to spend quality time in the Word of God DAILY, and also MEDITATE on the Word which is a very different exercise.
We know the word meditate is the picture of a cow or water buffalo chewing the cud, and the grass slowly passing through the four sections of the cow’s stomach to produce excellent milk.
Mediation takes discipline, and the Believer cooperating with the Holy Spirit to bring what Theologians call ILLUMINATION (God turning the light on), or expressing it another way, the information (you read) becoming REVELATION.
In 2 Kings 6 we read the story of Elisha and his servant. The young early in the morning, perhaps going out to the well to wash the sleep out of his eyes, and he looks up and he sees the enemy all around ready to attack. He rushes into the Prophet and says “Man have we got problems” I love the Prophet’s reply “He that is for us is far greater than he that is against us” and Elisha prays a simple prayer “Lord open the young man’s eyes” and instantly the servant saw what the Elisha had seen all the time, that the mountain and the Prophet were encircled with horses and chariots of fire.
O HOW WE NEED THE SERVANY’S EXPERIENCE
I also believe if you will spend five to ten minutes EVERY DAY, you can have an eye opening experience, that can cause such positive changes in your life and take you to a new level of relationship with God, and new dimensions of faith and effectiveness in your service to the Lord.
In the Greek New Testament we know there two words for the word WORD. They are Logos and Rhema..
1.LOGOS is the written Word of God, and never forget God said it I believe it, that settle it.
2. RHEMA, This is when the Holy Spirit takes the written Word, and makes it come alive to you, the Psalmists talks about the Word being QUICKENED to them. Or ILLUMINATION takes place, and God turns the light on. Paul says the Rhema Word produces FAITH Rom:10:17, this is basis for life changing experiences.
Let us be honest, so much of the Old Testament seems to have so little relevance to us, and that is why many believers, spend little time there, HERE ARE 2 KEYS FOR YOU
- Much of the Old Testament YOU can pass through the Cross and apply New Covenant principles to it, this will give you a much better understand of the writings and its potential relevance to you.
- Ask God to turn the light on.
WHY HAVE I SAID ALL OF THE ABOVE?
We cannot help but be aware of all that is happening around us in the world, often in our world, our town or city or state or nation, plus what is happening in much of the church in our nation, and this cannot help but make us discouraged, yet I was feeling convicted of my negative thinking, and developing a “remnant mentality” that is will just be a “Elect few” serving God when Jesus returns.
I think I have shared in the past of my “eye opening experience” in Hyderabad India. I had never seen so many people all apparently blind to the Gospel, 82% Hindu, 11% Muslim, plus Jains, & Sikhs,& Buddhists, and about 1% Christian, I felt India would never be won for God, why do I bother? I shall go home to my wife and family, but in a moment of time, God gave me ILLUMINATION and I knew JESUS CHRIST SHALL BE LORD OF INDIA. This revelation changed my life and ministry for all the nations of the world, Praise the Lord.
So, what of our present world situation? I have been impressed of late to spend some time in the books of Habbakuk and Joel, and I have had some eye opening experiences, that has lifted the discouragement, and as Jesus said to His disciples in John 4, LIFT UP YOUR EYES IT IS HARVEST TIME NOW. If we simply look with our natural eyes we see no signs of harvest, but when ILLUNINATION,OR REVELATION OR A RHEMA WORD COMES
EVERYTHING IS CHANGED.
Let me highlight some verses that spoke to me, will you pray that God will give you increased understanding from these verses ?
- Habbakuk 1:5 Look among the nations and watch, be UTTERLY AMAZED, for I will work a work in your days, which you would not believe, though it were told you.
- Joel 1:13-14 tells us there are things we must do, Gird yourselves and lament you priests, wail you who minister before the altar, come lie all night in sackcloth, you who minister to our God, Concrate a fast, call a sacred assembly, gather the elders, and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the Lord your God, and cry out to the Lord. WE MUST CO-OPERATE WITH THE LORD TO SEE REVIVAL COME.
THE RESULT
Joel 2:32 And it shall come to pass that whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord Shall be saved. Hallelujah
IT WILL NOT BE A PICNIC
Joel 3:9 Proclaim this among the nations “PREPARE FOR WAR” wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near,

I could write so much, and highlight so many verses from these two books. Do you get the principle I am trying to share with you?
I need to say, when you feel God speaks to you like this IT MUST ALWAYS LINE UP WITH THE TOTAL WRITTEN WORD OF GOD.
