SOME RANDOM THOUGHTS

By John Ollis

As I continue my  current journey through the psalms I have been challenged and blessed by some verses recently. I am not sure where this blog will go today, but may my ponderings also be a blessing and challenge to you.
Psalm 81:You called in trouble, and I delivered you, I answered you in the place of thunder, I tested you at the waters of Meribah.NKJV
Paul ever reminds us, “That all things work together for good to them that love God and are called according to His purpose”. God is not the author of our “troubles” but He sure want to use them. Asaph knew where to cry out to get himself out of trouble, and of course the Lord delivered him. It is interesting the words Asaph uses, that God answered from the “secret place of thunder” other translations suggest the this place is the  source or place where thunder is created. We all agree that God is the Creator, was Asaph suggesting too that his troubles were thunderous ?Then God says “I tested you at the waters of Meribah”, (Numbers 20:24) where God’s people rebelled against God’s Word. Meribah which means quarrel, provocation, strife, may have been part of Asaph’s problem that got him into his troubles..
A few verses down v.13 God cries out, “Oh that my people would listen to me, that Israel would walk in my ways! I would soon subdue their enemies, and turn my hand against their enemies”.
I think God is saying “If you would listen to me, you would save yourself from so many troubles”. Without doubt, we create so many troubles for ourselves, because we “do our own thing” without seeking God’s mind on a matter. Oh that we would all learn than even in the smallest things we should seek God’s direction.
I have talked previously about the Harbour lights teaching” That a ship coming into port at night needs to line up a number of lights, so it is in the correct channel, and will not hit rocks or be grounded on the sand.
1.Do we have the peace of God on the matter?
2. What does the Word of God say about it?
3. What are the circumstances? just because they are good odes that make it right ?
4. What does Godly Counsel (a Mentor or two) say?
Only when these four all line up, can you be assured you are walking in the will of God.
If we would just do these things says (verse 16) He would feed us on the “finest of the wheat” (the very best) spiritual food, revelation from the Word), and honey from the rock (sweet) I WOULD HAVE SATISFIED YOU.”.
Do we want to save ourselves from many of our own self created troubles, or those of the evil one,  we must recognise we need that “wisdom” that comes from above” and the Lord will “meet all our needs according to His riches in glory.
May we learn from our past failures, and go forth with the intention, and letting the Lord into even the “smallest areas” of our lives and decision making.  Do you agree?
