LET'S GET BACK TO THE BIBLE
A few days ago I was sitting reading the Scriptures, and I clearly felt the Lord say “YOU MUST SPEND MORE TIME IN THE WORD” I didn’t mentally react and shout out why ? I know the utter importance of reading, studying and meditating on the Word of God. I have taught its importance for many years especially in the context of Biblical Discipleship, I also loved to teach the Systematic Theology called Bibliology. I couldn’t say to the Lord I don’t have enough time to spend in the Word, as now I am retired I sure am not short of time to do it.
I began to meditate on the many reasons why I need to spend more time in the Word. I am going to spell them out here, not in any specific order, but just as I see why I need to do this.
THE BIBLE IS INSPIRED
There is not other book in the world like the Bible, the very breath of God is in every page. Paul writing to Timothy expresses it this way:
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, (God breathed) and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be COMPLETE, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Tim.3:16 NKJV
Not only inspired, but perfect in every way to make us complete.
THE BIBLE IS POWERFUL
The writer to Hebrews says:
For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 NKJV
The Word of God has a unique ministry to touch us even to the very deepest recesses of our heart.
THE BIBLE IS CREATIVE
The Apostle Peter tells us (We) having been born again, not of corruptible seed, but the incorruptible (SPERMA) through the Word of God which lives and abides forever 1 Peter 1:23 NKJV
As in unbeliever we hear the preaching of the Word of God, we come under conviction of sin, and as we respond, the Holy Spirit takes the Word (divine sperma) and plants it into the womb of our heart and spiritual conception takes place, which produces the glorious born again experience. It is God’s plan that EVERY DAY as believers we receive that divine sperma into our hearts so that more and more of God’s DNA is placed into our lives. Isn’t that a great reason to spend more time in the Word?
THE BIBLE IS A SOURCE OF CLEANSING
Pauls tells us That He (Christ) might sanctify and cleanse her (the Church, every believer) with the washing of water by the Word. Eph. 6:26 NKJV
Every time the priests came into the Tabernacle, after spending time at the brazen altar (a picture of repentance and cleansing through the blood of the Lamb) would move on to the brazen laver, and display their hands and feet in front of the mirrors built into the laver, and then wash themselves. This is an awesome picture of the ministry of the Word of God to cleanse and sanctify us.
THE BIBLE IS THE SOURCE OF FAITH
Paul wrote to the Romans and told them, So then FAITH comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God Rom 10:17 NKJV
In every aspect of our spiritual life we need faith, thus we need to spend quality time daily in the Word of God
THE BIBLE IS A SWORD TO USE AGAINST THE ENEMY
Again Paul tells us, And take the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God Eph. 6:17 NKJV
God has made available to us a complete set of armour, so that we can totally and utterly protect ourselves from every attack of the evil one,. We must recognise which piece of armour we need in a given situation, put it in and learn how to use it. I wrote recently about how I (eventually) discerned the enemy was messing with my head, and I needed to take the Sword, and confess the Word of God against him and he had to run Hallelujah.
WE MUST LET THE WORD BE BOTH LOGOS AND RHEMA
There are two words in the Greek text for the word word.
Logos is the written word of God, and we thank God for every written word in the Bible, but we are told to also meditate on the written word, and let the Holy Spirit make it come alive and personal to us. Jesus responded to the enemy and said Man shall not live by by bread alone, but by every word (rhema) that proceeds fro the mouth of God Matt. 4:4 NKJV
I sincerely believe if we will spend quality time DAILY in the Word of God, the Holy Spirit will quicken (make alive) the written word,(Logos) and make it personal and real to us personally, this we call the RHEMA (the divine sperma that causes spiritual comception in our spirit. that produce fantastic things in our life.
GOD WANTS TO GIVE YOU RHEMA WORDS EVERY DAY
THE BIBLE IS FOOD TO MAKE US GROW
My most recent blog on our spiritual BMI confirms this, may we not suffer with anorexia nervosa but be GLUTTONS for tor the Word of God, We cannot have too much of the Word of God. You cannot get spiritual indigestion Amen.
THE BIBLE CAN KEEP US FROM SINNING
The Psalmist tells us Your Word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against You. Psalm 119:11NKJV
We know the old saying which is so true, THIS BOOK WILL KEEP YOU FROM SIN, BUT SIN WILL KEEP YOU FROM THIS BOOK.
W e need to spend more time ‘HIDING” God’s Word in our heart, one great way is to MEMORISE it.
I began this blog by saying the Lord had clearly spoken to me and told me I must spend more time in the Word of God, I said I had no excuse but to respond, and to do it joyfully and willingly. The Lord reminded me of the truth
THEREFORE TO HIM WHO KNOWS TO DO GOOD AND DOES NOT DO IT, IT IS SIN James 4:17 NKJV
Wow, I had to repent, and truly say I was sorry. So with the Lord’s help, by the Grace of God I will spend more time in the Word of God daily, I WANT TO LET THE WORD WORK MORE AND MORE IN MY LIFE.
We are living in a generation where sadly many Believers hardly ever open their Bibles, a generation of Biblical illiteracy, and consequently a generation of lean, skinny undernourished starving Christians.
