DO YOU KNOW CHRIST'S SECURITY & PROTECTION?

By John Ollis

Having been a Christian for almost 68 years and very involved in church life and Ministry for 60+ years, I have seen many changes, many that have been good, and some sadly that have not been good. I very strongly agree with the statement though that METHODS CHANGE BUT THE MESSAGE MUST NEVER CHANGE..

One huge change has been in the area of music and singing and worship, which has meant that many great old hymns for example are never sung anymore, and this younger generation do not have a clue when I mention the titles of some. One hymn that has come to mind recently, I will spell out here, that so clearly describes the security and protection we have as a Believer.

1. A wonderful Saviour is Jesus, my Lord,
A wonderful Saviour to me,
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock,
Where rivers of pleasure I see.
Chorus:
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock
  That shadows a dry, thirsty land;
He hideth my life in the depths of His love,
  And covers me there with His hand,
    And covers me there with His hand
2. A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord,
  He taketh my burden away;
He holdeth me up and I shall not be moved,
  He giveth me strength as my day.
.
3. With numberless blessings each moment He crowns,
  And, filled with His fulness divine,
I sing in my rapture, oh, glory to God,
  For such a Redeemer as mine!
4. When clothed in His brightness, transported I rise
  To meet Him in clouds of the sky,
His perfect salvation, His wonderful love,
  I’ll shout with the millions on high.

The truth and theme for this hymn is taken from Exodus 33:22 NKJV So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by.
The hymnwriter has taken the verse and passed it through the Cross and applied New Covenant Truth and principles to it, to show the security and protection we have when we are a born again Believer.
There are numerous pictures in the Bible that so clearly portray this truth, I am reminded of the sad words in Luke 13:34, NKJV where Jesus describes Himself as a hen, so wanting to gather the Jews like a hen gathered her chicks to protect them, but they refused.
I am reminded of the story of God’s people in Egypt being told to kill a lamb and put the blood on the doorposts and lintels of every house and when the angel of death passed over when he saw the blood he kept going, thank God under the New Covenant we have both cleansing and protection as Believers because of the blood of the Lamb, the Lord Jesus Christ.
I think of the complete set of armour that is ours to put on and use that can protect us from every attack of the enemy. Ephesians 6:11-18 NKJV
I cannot help but thank God that I and every born again Believer is in the palm of Christ’s hand and we have total and permanent protection. John 10:29 NKJV My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.
Visualise yourself today being hidden in the cleft of a rock, you can look out and you can see the turmoil and chaos all around, but are totally relaxed, knowing the perfect security and protection we have as a child of God amen.
