JESUS BREATHE ON ME

By John Ollis

In Genesis 2: 7 NKJV we read And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
Right from the moment of man’s creation we see God BREATHING on Adam, and he became a living being. In reality without the breathe of God in us WE ARE NOT REALLY LIVING.

We see in Ezekiel 37: God taking Ezekiel into a valley, and everywhere there were dry bones. God asks Ezekiel “Can these bones live?” Ezekiel wisely replied “God You know the answer to that question”. The question without a doubt produces faith in the prophet’s heart especially after God had added more substance to the question, so when God told him to prophecy to the bones Ezekiel responded and what a miracle took place, we read in verses 9-10 NKJV Also He said to me, “Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.” ’ ” So I prophesied as He commanded me, and breath came into them, and they lived, and stood upon their feet, an exceedingly great army.

I am not wanting to comment on the Eschatological interpretations to these verses, just simply to say that when God breathed on the bones, flesh appeared as well and they all came alive and stood up like a mighty army ALL BECAUSE OF THE BREATH OF GOD.

I am reminded of the story of Jesus after His resurrection as He gathered with His Disciples in John 20:23 NKJV And when He had said this, He BREATHED on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. The word spirit in the Greek language can be translated WIND, BREATH, or AIR. This is exactly the same thing that happens to us, when we are born again, God breathed on us, and His Holy Spirit came into us, and like the army on the Valley, we stand up and are truly ALIVE (spiritually) for the first time.

We must now learn to live the Spirit-filled life, that is why Paul tells us in Ephesians 5:18 NKJV And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be (continually) filled with the Spirit. The MESSAGE says: Don’t drink too much wine. That cheapens your life. Drink (present continuous) the Spirit of God, huge draughts of Him. We must CONTINUALLY DRINK, that is let the Holy Spirit continually be “filling the House” yes He lives in us, but wants to be not just resident (but PRESIDENT) in every part of the house 24/7. As you daily re-affirm Christ’s Lordship over your life, by faith pray, Lord in every nook and cranny every room Breath on me breath of God, and fill the house. Amen.

I trust you know this great old hymn, let it be your prayer.

  1. Breathe on me, Breath of God,
    Fill me with life anew,
That I may love what Thou dost love,
And do what Thou wouldst do.
  2. Breathe on me, Breath of God,
    Until my heart is pure,
Until with Thee I will one will,
    To do and to endure.
  3. Breathe on me, Breath of God,
    Till I am wholly Thine,
Until this earthly part of me
    Glows with Thy fire divine.
  4. Breathe on me, Breath of God,
    So shall I never die,
But live with Thee the perfect life
    Of Thine eternity.
