ARE YOU IN GOD'S GYM?

By John Ollis

A very common item in many people’s budgets theses days is the cost of a gym membership, often because of the busy lifestyles they live, and there are many too feel they need the help of a personal trainer, to assist them in gaining fitness, and this has to added to the budget too.
The closest I have ever got to a gym was having an exercise cycling machine which I used for some years until starting to have trouble with my knee because of a staph infection.
One of the areas that a personal trainer can assist with is RESISTANCE TRAINING, that can assist muscular strength and endurance. During a resistance training workout I understand you move your limbs against resistance provided by your body weight, gravity, bands weighted bars of dumbbells.
I cannot help but ask the question, why is it becoming so important in the physical realm? but is still not generally considered important in the spiritual realm.
God has a spiritual gym he wants us to attend and have a long term membership in also to be really involved in it, it is called Biblical Discipleship, and your personal trainer is a Disciplemaker/Mentor.
I do trust you are not turning off, and closing down this post, not only must we learn to develop a relationship with the Lord through prayer and the Word of God and this is so greatly assisted by a Personal Trainer, how much more do we need RESISTANCE TRAINING. Let me remind you today of James 4:7 AMP N.T. So be subject submitted) to God. RESIST the devil [stand firm against him], and he will flee from you.
The PASSION Translation says So then, surrender(continually) to God. Stand up to the devil and resist him and he will turn and run away from you.
The MESSAGE Bible says So let God work His will in you. Yell a loud no to the Devil and watch him scamper.
Paul writing to the Ephesian church tells in 6:11 AMP N.T. Put on God’s whole armor [the armor of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil.
The reality is the enemy has so many “tricks” up his sleeve it sure helps tremendously to have a Personal trainer to help us recognise all these sneaky tricks.
May I remind you today, the basis of our “resisting” starts with our submission and surrender to the Lord. Then on that basis we can start to learn to start resisting, and God promises us through His servant James that when we learn to resist the enemy he must run, he has so many sneaky tricks, a Personal trainer can help us recognise these “wiles of the devil”, otherwise the new Believer may be tripped up unnecessarily  many times.
I really like this simple illustration of Biblical Discipleship being described as God’s gym, and that we need to do “resistance training”.
What do you think?
