ILLUSTRATIONS THAT CAN "PACK A PUNCH".

By John Ollis

A considerable part of the Lord Jesus’s teaching ministry involved the use of parables, simply defined as earthly stories with a spiritual (heavenly) meaning.
In my most recent blog I was so blest personally when I saw the awesome truth (to me at least) recently that Biblical Discipleship can be likened to attending and having  gym membership and also having a “personal trainer”. What do you think?
To me this is a perfect parable to describe Biblical Discipleship to a 21st century audience.
Recently, I was sitting in a shopping mall drinking coffee whilst Margaret did some shopping, and again my mind went to describing truth in a parable or in just a simple statement. So I posted my thoughts on F.B. and was pleasantly surprised at the responses I received, I list them for you for your interest. So today, this is really a “fun blog” but also seeking to proclaim truth.  I wrote:

THANK GOD FOR HIS UNCHANGING CONSTANT FAITHFULNESS

1 John 1:9 AMP O.T. says If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, HE IS FAITHFUL AND JUST (TRUE TO HIS OWN NATURE AND PROMISES) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and [continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action].
Not just to forgive and cleanse but in every way 24/7 Hallelujah.

IF YOU WILL BUILD ACCORDING TO THE PATTERN YOU WILL SEE THE GLORY OF GOD.

God said to Moses and David that must build God’s House “according to the pattern” He would give them. They followed God’s directions and when the House (The Tabernacle and the Temple) were built the “Cloud of God’s Glory descended”. Pass this truth through the Cross, if we build our house (our body, God’s tabernacle, and the local church), we can expect the Glory of God to descend Hallelujah.
PSALM 80:1 NLT Please listen, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph’s descendants like a flock, O God enthroned above the Cherubim display your radiant glory. We are invited to meet the Lord “between the wings of the Cherubim, and if we meet Him there, WE ARE STANDING IN GLORY, make it a daily visit.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS SPIRITUAL GLUTTONY, YOU CAN’T HAVE TOO MUCH OF GOD’S WORD IN YOUR LIFE.

Psalm 92:12-14 KJV The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree:
he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
Those that be planted in the house of the Lord
shall flourish in the courts of our God.
They shall still bring forth fruit in old age;
they shall be FAT AND FLOURISHING.
“Lord increase my hunger for your Word, teach me to daily chew and eat and meditate on it”.

YOU CAN BE FAT AND FLOURISHING AND HAVE A GREAT SPIRITUAL BMI.

We know that there is a good natural BMI, but if our bodily statistics are not good, we can be declared obese and even morbidly obese, this is a very unhealthy diagnosis. When it comes to consuming God’s Word, we can eat and eat and eat and never get spiritual indigestion, our spiritual diagnosis we declare we are potentially 100% fit praise the Lord, as we LET THE WORD WORK IN US.

THERE IS NO  SUCH THING AS A SPIRITUAL VEGAN YOU MUST LEARN TO EAT THE MEAT OF GOD’S WORD.

Heb  5:12-14KJV For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that uses milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But STRONG MEAT belongs to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
We know that a new born baby must begin life drinking its mother’s milk,  but if we had a teenager say to us, “please give me a “bottle” I want my milk,” we would be very concerned, yet sadly the Church is full of believers who have never been weaned, and therefore never grown up, This is such an important part of Biblical Discipleship to assist the new believer, to enjoy daily the “milk” of God’s Word, and like a parent (personal trainer) start the “transition” to the “meat” of the Word.
We are living in a generation now where there are numerous groups that are “shouting from the rooftops” we should have a “vegan: diet, well I am shouting from the rooftops, we need to transition to the “strong meat” of the Word of God.
Heb. 5:14 AMP N.T. reads But solid food is for full-grown men, for those whose senses and mental faculties are trained by practice to discriminate and distinguish between what is morally good and noble and what is evil and contrary either to divine or human law.
Not only does the ‘meat” of the Word safeguard us and helps us to discriminate and distinguish between is good and what is evil, but also what is true and what is false, too many of God’s people are getting into deception and error, because they have not learnt to “eat” the meat of God’s Word.
So, the above is meant to be light hearted but also seeking to “pack a punch” when it comes to truth, I would love to receive your comments.
