A DIFFERENT SORT OF CHECK UP (Lenten11)

By John Ollis

As Reflection is a major part of our Lenten journey, I want to highlight one of the 10 COMMANDMENTS in this blog. Exodus 20:3 NKJV You shall have no other gods before Me.
You may immediately say, “What are you talking about John?” I am not an idolater. Well the reality SADLY   that many Christians are.
I am sure for example (I trust) you do not have a Buddha sitting in your garden, but what is in the garden of your heart, that is really a wretched weed, that is hindering, and perhaps chocking your spiritual growth.
I pray regularly Psalm 139:23-24, but in this Lenten journey, it would be good to REFLECT on our heart EVEN MORE which Jeremiah says is DECEITFUL AND DESPERATELY WICKED.
NLT. Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
Point out anything in me that offends you,
and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

MESSAGE Investigate my life, O God,
find out everything about me;
Cross-examine and test me,
get a clear picture of what I’m about;
See for yourself whether I’ve done anything wrong—
then guide me on the road to eternal life.

I am going to write a simple far from complete list of things that  could become an idol in our lives
My Wife
My Husband
My Career
My Car
My House
My Ministry
My bank account
Can you see how many things like the list above could become an idol. It may not yet be an idol as yet, but are any of those things having an increasing influence in our lives.
Let us reflect and pray, and ask the Holy Spirit show us, if there is anything that is or could become an idol in our lives, and has or could hinder and choke my spiritual life.
Lent is an excellent opportunity to check this out, it maybe the Holy Spirit will SPOTLIGHT something  else in your heart,

LET BE A TIME OF SPIRITUAL SURGERY IF IT IS REQUIRED.
