LET US DO IT RIGHT AMEN
Most of us will know Col. 3:17 NKJV which says And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
There is so much truth in this verse, and it has been quickened to me afresh today. let us look at it in other translations.
AMP. N.T. And whatever you do [no matter what it is] in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus and in [DEPENDANCE UPON] His Person, giving praise to God the Father through Him.
N.L.T.And whatever you do or say, do it as a REPRESENTIVE of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.
PASSION Let every activity of your lives and every word that comes from your lips be DRENCHED WITH THE BEAUTY OF OUR LORD JESUS the Anointed One. And bring your constant praise to God the Father because of what Christ has done for you!
MESSAGE Let every detail in your lives—WORDS, ACTIONS WHATEVER—be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way.
I sadly, must admit that when I have read this verse in the past, often it has been very much in the context of the delegated authority God has given us as His servants, BUT THERE IS SO MUCH MORE FOR US TO UNDERSTAND IN THIS VERSE.
Whenever we open our mouth we must remember we speak relying and being dependent on God to give us the right words, and that they are anointed by the Holy Spirit.
The NLT reminds us we are GOD’S REPRESENTATIVE (like an Ambassador in a foreign land representing their country) that is why Paul describes us in 2 Cor. 3:2. as a letter or epistle, some translations say, “a letter of recommendation” or a “letter of endorsement” It is not only what we say, but people are READING OUR LIVES by our actions and lifestyle and as the PASSION translation says it is all drenched with the beauty (fragrance of our Lord Jesus.
Paul then concludes by saying that our total lifestyle MUST BE REFLECTED IN AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE, AND THANKSGIVING. Paul reminded the Thessalonians in 1 Thess. 5:18 NKJV In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. No matter what happens, in all circumstances we are to be thankful, we know through the Word of God and by revelation that our God is in control in every situation.
Let me conclude by reminding you that Paul says whatever we do. it is all:
IN THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS.
Not in the name of our local church or our denomination or because we are “ordained” (or not) but exclusively in that AWESOME NAME. Phil. 2:9-11 NKJV Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is ABOVE EVERY NAME, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
To me the word LORD means
The Boss
The King
The Ruler
The Master
The Owner
The President OF MY LIFE
To me the name JESUS means these things AND SO MUCH MORE
My Saviour
My Deliverer
My Lover
My Healer
My Redeemer
My Advocate
My Isaiah 49:6 (read it for yourself)
