GOD’S CONTINUAL GOODNESS TO US
My O.T. reading at the moment is the Book of Psalms, When I got to Psalm 51 (David’s Repentance & Confession), I spent a few days meditating on all the truth that is in this Psalm, I personally regularly pray verses 10-12NKJV Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me away from Your presence,
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
And uphold me by Your generous Spirit. and I also pray
Psalm 139:23 NKJV Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me, and know my anxieties;
And see if there is any wicked way in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting.
King David became a great man of God and I am sure one of the reasons was the depth of his confession and repentance we see in Psalm 51, the Scriptures say apart from this failure regarding Bathsheba 1 Kings 15:5 “He did that which was right in the sight of God”.
Then I came to Psalm 52 and immediately verse one spoke to me and blessed me so much. NKJV THE GOODNESS OF GOD ENDURES CONTINUALLY. David numerous times in his Psalms speaks of God’s goodness which he had received not only as he confessed in Psalm 51, but throughout his reign as the King of Israel,
Other translations of verse 1 says:
MESSAGE Yet God’s loyal love will protect me and carry the day!
MESSAGE God’s mercy carries the day.
N.L.T. don’t you realize God’s justice continues forever?
I trust you can testify with David as I sure can, that we have experienced and continue to experience GOD’S GOODNESS and can ALSO say with David Psalm 23:6 NKJV Surely GOODNESS and mercy shall follow me ALL the days of my life and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.
We know this is all because Jesus took the Father’s wrath upon Himself and ALL OUR SINS and carried them away.
GOD’S GOODNESS is CONTINUAL because :
- Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither slumber nor sleep. Psalm 121:4 NKJV - Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Heb. 13:8 NKJV
Jeremiah 31:3 NKJV tells us I have loved you with an EVERLASTING love; and despite the fact that we must disappoint Him many times HIS GOODNESS IS CONTINUAL.
A verse that has blest be so much is 1 John 1:9 AMP N.T. He is faithful and just (TRUE TO HIS OWN NATURE AND PROMISES.
WE THANK GOD FOR HIS UNCHANGING NATURE.
I am reminded of Paul’s words to the Romans Rom. 2:4 NKJV Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the GOODNESS OF GOD LEADS YOU TO REPENTANCE.
It was only the GOODNESS OF GOD in the very first place in our lives that brought us to God to seek His forgiveness and to be reconciled to Him, and it is HIS GOODNESS that is our constant portion amen.
Let us not abuse and take for granted THE GOODNESS OF GOD, but seek to maintain continually that attitude of repentance and ever by conscious that by His grace I can live above sin, and walk in victory and purity.
I will conclude this simple but I trust encouraging blog with the words of a chorus we used to sing:
I am covered over with the robe of righteousness that Jesus gives to me, gives to me
I am covered over with the precious blood of Jesus and He lives in me lives in me
What a joy it is to know my Heavenly Father loves me, and he lives in me, lives in me
When He looks at me He sees not what I used to be BUT HE SEES JESUS
