ARE YOU LEARNING TO PUT YOUR HELMET ON?

By John Ollis

Two weeks ago I wrote a blog entitled SO GREAT SALVATION, this awesome truth has become an ever increasing revelation to me. If many Christians were surveyed and asked about “their” Salvation” they would immediately think about the day the Holy Spirit convicted them of their sin and He enabled them to repent, and they were born again. I wrote in that blog although that day was special it is only a part of God’s so great Salvation.

If many Christians were asked what is the end result (inheritance) from being born again,? The immediate response would be that now their name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life and they will spend eternity in heaven., this is so true, and we all look forward to that day when we will “be forever with the Lord.

Yet, there is so much more to God’s so great Salvation, there is our INHERITANCE NOW, where we can live in victory and purity and holiness.

Have you ever heard a sermon or teaching or a series on THE BELIEVER’S INHERITANCE NOW? So many Believers go through years of defeat and failure, without knowing what is available to them, sadly they can start to believe this is the status quo or the norm and just put up with this level of spiritual existence, sadly some even walk away and we call them backsliders.

THIS IS WHY BIBLICAL DISCIPLESHIP IS SO IMPORTANT.

Some of my readers will immediately “turn off” and say I have nothing new to say, but it is “tell me the story often for I forget so soon”

When Paul wrote to the Ephesian Christians in chapter 6:10-18 NKJV

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—

he used an illustration that they were very familiar with, as they would daily see Roman soldiers in their armour in the streets, and Paul tells them they MUST PUT ON THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD.

I want to highlight (again) one piece of the armour THE HELMET OF SALVATION, even after over 69 years as a Believer I need personally to have greater appreciation and application of what it means to take and put the Helmet in. We know the mind is the battlefield of the soul, and that every battle is won or lost in the mind, it was the area Satan attacked Adam and Eve that caused them to fall, and it is usually the first area of attack from the evil one to us as well.

Until the day we die, we are going to have thoughts that can lead us to sin, and as the saying goes “we cannot stop the birds flying around our head but we can sure stop them nesting in our hair”.

I posed the question on FB “What is the Helmet of Salvation and how do you use it”? I received some interesting answers,

To me, the answer is firstly, KNOWING WE HAVE AN INHERITANCE TO DEAL WITH EVERY ATTACK.

Then we need to do as Paul tells us:

To put it on CONTINUALLY

To RECOGNISE which piece of armour we need to use.

To KNOW how to use it.

A Bible Scholar friend reminded me just yesterday that the Roman soldier’s helmet also protected his EYES & EARS.

So let me remind you what I believe it means to take and put on THE HEMET OF SALVATION.

1.Claiming the protection of the blood of Jesus over our mind

2. Using the delegated authority we have been given to USE THE NAME OF JESUS against sinful thoughts.

3. Taking the Sword of the Spirit and confessing the Rhema Word of God against the sinful thoughts.

4. Using our prayer language as a weapon of warfare

6. Using Praise & Worship to the the Lord as weapons of warfare

7 Make a Covenant with our EYES Job 31:1

8. Choose not to linger listening (EARS) to sinful words

These above are “casting down” the sinful thoughts and now we must do as Paul declares in Phil. 4:8 NKJV Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate (THINK) on these things.

These are all available to us as part of our inheritance as born again believers, let us learn to continually TAKE AND PUT ON THE HELMET OF SALVATION, so we can stand against ALL THE WILES OF THE DEVIL.

I may not have said one new thing in this blog today, but I pray the Holy Spirit will make this glorious truth it become an ever increasing revelation to your spirit.

I am always open to your comments.
