WHAT A MIGHTY GOD WE SERVE (1)

By John Ollis

Many preachers and teachers, can be very critical of King David, because of his moral failure and causing the death of Uriah, but seem to forget what we read in 1 Kings 15:5 NKJV David did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, and had not turned aside from anything that He commanded him all the days of his life, except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.

As a result of Nathan the prophet’s challenge we read David’s confession in Psalm 51, and from then on the Bible tells us that David kept short accounts with God, as we read in Psalm 139:23-24 NKJV Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my anxieties (thoughts); and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
As well as confessing conscious sins, he asks the Lord to so search his heart for things that he cannot even recall, I personally make sure every day I “clear the decks” of any sin when I come into the Lord’s presence to pray.

I am currently reading afresh the Psalms and have been greatly blest as I have read Psalm 37 recently. I want to highlight a few verses that may also be a blessing to you.

We read in verses 23-24 NKJV The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He (The Lord) delights in his way, though he fall he shall not be utterly cast down.

N.L.T. The Lord directs the steps of the godly, He delights in every detail of their lives, directs the steps of the godly, though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.

PASSION The steps of the God-pursuing ones follow firmly in the footsteps of the Lord, and God delights in every step they take to follow Him. If they stumble badly they will still survive, for the Lord lifts them up with his hands.

MESSAGE Stalwart walks in step with God; his path blazed by God, he’s happy, if he stumbles he is not down for long. God has a grip on his hand.

David reminds us that our Sovereign Lord is ordering and directing our steps. and that our God is DELIGHTED every time we make a fresh new step in our walk with Him, As a result of our humanity and sinful nature we may stumble and fall sometimes, but the Lord is ALWAYS there to lift us up. Our slips are temporary, but our walk and God’s hand and support are ALWAYS there HE HAS A FIRM GRIP ON OUR HAND.

The enemy may whisper we are a failure, but as we resist him IN JESUS NAME, he must withdraw James 4:7), for included in our inheritance NOW is the glorious truth and reality as Paul declares in Phil. 4:13 NKJV I (we) can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

May these verses be a blessing and encourage you afresh today, in your walk with the Lord. May you have an awesome Lord’s Day tomorrow.

For the Lord upholds him with His hand.
