YET ANOTHER WORD ON DISCIPLESHIP

By John Ollis

Margaret and I love to watch weekly the tv program “THE YORKSHIRE VET”, not only do we see the beautiful Yorkshire countryside, but also all the beautiful animals and birds and other creatures that the vets, need to treat. We are overwhelmed at God’s creation and God’s design in everything that is portrayed in the program.

This past week, there were three stories of different animals that initially for numerous reasons could not or did not begin to feed from their mother. Within less that 48 hours infection began to set in and the baby animals were on the verge of death.

When God created mankind and most animals He designed that the mother at birth would have in her “birthing milk” something called COLOSTRUM, which is rich in fats and proteins and the equivalent of antibiotics to assist the new born to fight off disease and infection.

Fortunately in the stories shared in the tv program the babies did start to get Colostrum and their lives were saved.

I wonder whether my readers can see where I am going with this, Peter tells us in 1Peter 1:23 AMP.N.T. You have been regenerated (born again), not from a mortal origin (seed, sperm), but from one that is immortal by the ever living and lasting Word of God.

The moment we are born again God plants a seed” (sperma) in us and we are born again, WE HAVE RECEIVED GOD’S DNA, and that is a glorious start, but the new born spiritual babe needs MORE that is DISCIPLING, thus we are commanded by the Lord to MAKE DISCIPLES Matt. 28:18-20 NKJV And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Biblical Discipleship is the essential colostrum for the new Believer. For animals and new born babies the colostrum only is needed for a few days, but for the new born Christian Believer, this is a continued requirement, for we have inherited a sinful nature, that wants to cause us to disobey the Lord and to wander away from the plan of God for our life.

My heart aches for so many who have repented and experienced God’s Salvation, then they are often left to their own resources to struggle on to follow the Lord without Biblical Discipleship, and old habits, old friends, their sinful nature, causes them to lose “the joy of their Salvation”.

If in the natural world, animals as well as new born babies need colostrum to survive and grow, how much more a new born Christian needs all the assistance they can get to grow to spiritual maturity and in turn they can disciple others.

May the Lord help us fulfil His command and be a channel of blessing to see more new Believers Biblically Discipled.
