WHAT DOES THE NAME OF JESUS MEAN TO YOU?

In 1976 I visited Israel for the first time, and as I walked through one of the gates of the Old City, some Arab boys came up to me and asked me if I wanted a “guide” to show me the sights of the Old City. Although it is 45+years ago I remember at least one of the boy’s names was Jesus, I guess that is a fairly common name amongst Christian Arabs. We talk much about the name of Jesus, and it was Shakespeare who wrote in one if his stories the words WHAT IS IN A NAME? To many people it is simply a “swear” word to many, it is just the name of some historic person who lived 2000 years ago.

The Angel of the Lord told Joseph in Matt.1:21 NKJV You shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins. The Jews were looking for a Messiah (sadly they missed Him) to reconcile them to their God.

What does the Name of Jesus mean to you, many songwriters have answered that question so well like:

In our daily Quiet Time it is so awesome to simply sit in the Father’s presence and whisper the name Jesus, just mentioning His Name we are declaring our love for Him, and our desire to live for Him and serve Him with all our heart amen.

Then like the Psalmist, this is what we want to do:

Then there are other times, we have needs and challenges in our lives and find we must again say as the Psalmist did:

The Word of God tells us there are so many ways we can come to appreciate and use the Name of Jesus, I am so glad that as a Believer the Father has delegated to me the right and privilege to use the Name of Jesus against our enemy, James 4:7KJV tells us Resist the devil IN THE NAME OF JESUS and he will flee from you. the devil hates the name of Jesus, as much as we love it, for Jesus broke his power when he was crucified and rose again hallelujah.

There is another way we can use the Name of Jesus too, Jesus declares to every Believer in Mark 16:17-18 NKJV And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;  they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
AMP. N.T. And these attesting signs will accompany those who believe: in My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new languages;
   They will pick up serpents; and [even] if they drink anything deadly, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will get well
PASSION And these miracle signs will accompany those who believe: They will drive out demons in the power of my name. They will speak in tongues.   They will be supernaturally protected from snakes and from drinking anything poisonous.  And they will lay hands on the sick and heal them.”

They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.” 

MESSAGE These are some of the signs that will accompany believers: They will throw out demons in my name, they will speak in new tongues,   they will take snakes in their hands, they will drink poison and not be hurt, they will lay hands on the sick and make them well."
