WILL YOU ATTEMPT GREAT THINGS FOR GOD, AND EXPECT GREAT THINGS FROM GOD.
My wife plays keyboard at our branch church about an hour’s drive from home every Sunday afternoon, so we have the privilege of great fellowship (with the Pastor and his wife) during the car journey and then hear the preaching of the Word (same sermon) twice every Sunday.
The sermon was taken from 1 Samuel 14: 1-16 about Jonathan’s conquest of the Philistine outpost. It was a NEW YEAR SERMON encouraging God’s people to be of the same mind as William Carey (founder of modern missions) to:
ATTEMPT GREAT THINGS FROM GOD, EXPECT GREAT THINGS FROM GOD.
I was greatly challenged by the preaching, and my desire increased to be more effective and fruitful in the Kingdom of God in 2024.
I think there were 2 heroes in this story, not just Jonathan but his unnamed armourbearer, verse 7 really touched my heart. His response to Jonathan was what I want to have in all the opportunities and challenges in 2024.
NIV 1984 “Do all that you have in mind,” his armor-bearer said. “Go ahead; I am with you heart and soul.”
NKJV 7 So his armorbearer said to him, “Do all that is in your heart. Go then; here I am with you, according to your heart.”
MESSAGE “Go ahead. Do what you think best. I’m with you all the way.”
The armour bearer had complete trust in Jonathan’s leadership, and the reality is that there may be times this year, that we could hold back and question our Jonathan JESUS.
Only this morning I read Psalm 119:89 NKJV Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven.

Our attitude has got to be: GOD SAID IT I BELIEVE IT,THAT SETTLES IT.
I guess it is like having to “walk on water”, at times but as we step out in faith and can agree with the Apostle Paul in in Rom.10:17 NKJV o then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
May we have ears to hear, as we read and meditate on Holy Scripture letting the Holy Spirit QUICKEN HIS WORD TO US, and let the Logos word become a Rhema word and say with the armour bearer LET’S DO IT, may we see the Kingdom extended and the Name of the Lord glorified in 2024 amen.
