JEHOVAH JIREH

By John Ollis

We know the story well of Abraham being instructed by God to sacrifice his son Isaac, and in obedience Abraham prepared to do just that (Genesis) 22:14) then God provided a ram for Abraham to use as a sacrifice. he called the place Jehovah Jireh (the Lord will provide), this compound name of God is one of the most popular and well known to most Christians.

Paul in Philippians 4:19  spells it out so well:

My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

We can all testify I am sure how through prayer we have asked God to meet a need, and He has, and often without even praying our need has been met.

Jesus, in the Sermon on the Mount declares (Matt. 6:26) “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly father feeds them. Are you not more value than they ?”

I have said all the above because as I was reading and meditating on Psalm 104 this morning, the Psalmist has so much to say about this. Especially in verses 10 through 18 the Psalmist spells out the many ways he meets our needs and that of His creation in the animal kingdom. Thank God, He miraculously meets our need, but so often our needs are met, as the Psalmist records, through what we may call natural ways, and because they are so called natural ways, we don’t recognise the hand of God in the situation.

Like the Psalmist, let us see God’s hand in the natural and in the supernatural, and do as he does. SIN TO THE LORD, AS LONG AS I LIVE, I WILL SING PRAISE TO MY GOD WHILE I HAVE MY BEING. MAY MY MEDITATION BE SWEET TO HIM;I WILL BE GLAD IN THE LORD.

Let us thank God today, that through many means, both natural and supernatural HE MEETS OUR NEED.
