THE CONSISTENCY OF OUR GOD
It seems that one of the common signs of aging for a Christian is that often when you least expect it, the words of old song or hymn will come to you, these words came to me as I was sitting quietly after lunch today.
As we gather may Your Spirit work within us
As we gather may we glorify Your Name
Knowing well that as our hearts begin to worship
We’ll be blessed because we came X2 (Repeat I)
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases
His mercies never come to an end,
They are new every morning
New every morning
Great is Your faithfulness, 0 Lord
Great is Your faithfulness (Repeat 2)
Immediately the word CONSISTENCY came to my mind, firstly in the context of the words of the song that was taken from Lamentations 3:22-23, we can turn our love on and off like a tap, we can be merciful if we choose or unmerciful, we can choose to be faithful to another or unfaithful, but our God is consistently UNCHANGING. Aren’t you glad about that?
Some aspects of God’s consistency come to mind.
His Grace is ever available to us
His peace is ever available to us
His love is ever available to us
His forgiveness is ever available to us
His righteousness is ever available to us.
WHY?
God has no favourites (Acts 10:34) He shows no partiality to anyone,
Why do we sometimes run away when we have failed the Lord, do we think God will not listen to our cry? are we not convinced that His Word is true? that if we confess our sin, He is faithful and just (He is true to His Name, His nature, and His promises) to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
We know we don’t deserve His forgiveness,or His love,or His mercy,or His goodness, let us not forget He saw us in eternity past, He saw us messing up, BUT HE STILL CHOSE US, and decided that all our sin and the Father’s wrath would be laid on Jesus, and HE CARRIED IT ALL AWAY. Never to be remembered ever again Hallelujah.
Let me share an awesome verse with you from three different translations. Psalm 100.5
For the lord is good, His unfailing love continues forever, and His faithfulness to each generation. NLT
For God is sheer beauty, all-generous in love, loyal always and ever MESSAGE
For the Lord is good; His mercy and loving-kindness are everlasting, His faithfulness and truth endure to all generations AOT.
Can I encourage you to meditate on this verse, and look at it in these three translations, let the Holy Spirit give you revelation and understanding, it could change your life.
We thank God for His UNCHANGING CONSISTENCY, and sadly the reality is we do often fail Him, but let me share something else with you, He wants to make available to us because of HIS UNCHANGING CONSISTENTCY, an ability not that we cannot sin, BUT WE NEED NOT SIN. 2 PETER 1:3 Again I share it from three different translations.
By His divine power, God has given us everything we need to live a Godly life.We have received all of this by coming to know Him, the one who has called us to Himself by means of His marvellous glory and excellent NLT
Everything that goes into a life of pleasing god has been miraculously given to us by getting to know, personally and intimately, the one who invites us to God. The best invitation we ever received. MESSAGE
For His divine power has bestowed upon us al things that are requisite and suited to life and godliness, through the full personal knowledge of Him who called by and to His own glory and excellence (virtue). A.N.T.
Let us not abuse God’s unchanging consistency, but see because of His mercy and love he has obtained for us through the death of His son Jesus Christ, the ability to live a holy, anointed, victorious pure life, meditate on Peter’s words, in these three translations and again let the Holy Spirit give you understanding and revelation., and take you to that new level of relationship with our FAITHFUL GOD.
