HOW WELL ARE YOU BUILDING REALLY?

By John Ollis

Jesus says in Matthew 7:24 NKJV Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: Jesus makes this statement at the conclusion on what is called THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT. Matthew 5-7 is an awesome series of teaching from Jesus, and if we sure put it all into practice we would sure have a STRONG FOUNDATION (as solid as a rock). Once again Biblical discipleship is all about laying strong foundations.

The word “sayings” is the Greek word Logos, which is also translated word/s. I love that saying. GOD SAID IT, I BELIEVE IT, THAT SETTLES IT.

Jesus majors on two words in this verse HEARING & DOING. People often joke about the fact, that “Men have selective deafness”, and often are not listening when their wife is speaking to them. Sadly, all believers can have “selective deafness” when it comes to God’s Word. Paul tells us in Romans 10:17 NKJV So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word (Rhema) of God. So that when we truly listen the Logos becomes a Rhema and that puts faith into our hearts to OBEY. The information becomes revelation. I think the TRUTH in this verse is OBEDIENCE (does them), and the end result is making wise decisions. In 1 Samuel 25:22 NKJV Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams.

The MESSAGE spells it out for us very clearly. Do you think all God wants are sacrifices—empty rituals just for show, He wants you to LISTEN to Him, plain listening is the thing, not staging a lavish religious production.
It is so easy to be “religious” and nod our heads in agreement, but our hearts, are far from agreeing to truly listen and obey.

In the last few months across the world there has been floods and cyclones and thousands of houses have been swept away, and one major reason has been poor foundations.

So, Jesus is saying if you want to build your life right (according to the Word of God) not only must we listen, but need to meditate much on God’s Word, letting it become revelation, and that we totally obey what the Word says so that His Word becomes the foundation stone in our lives.

Because of our sinful nature again Paul tells us we must continually sacrifice (not animals) but lay down our lives (our body) so that we are a quality channel or instrument for God to work in and through. Rom. 12:1 AMP says I APPEAL to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship.

Please note present all your members and faculties, in your body with its senses and drives, your mind, your emotions, and your will CONSTANTLY to God, this causes God’s wisdom to be birthed in our hearts, so when the floods and storms of life blow against us, we will remain strong and effective and fruitful for the Lord.

I trust this simple blog may bless and encourage you to keep moving forward in your walk with the Lord.
