WHAT A FOUNDATION WE HAVE

By John Ollis

When the whirlwind passes by, the wicked is no more,
But the righteous has an everlasting foundation.Prov. 10:25 NKJV

When the storm is over, there’s nothing left of the wicked;
good people, firm on their rock foundation, aren’t even fazed. MESS.

Many of us will remember the great old hymn:

  1. How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
    Is laid for your faith in His excellent word!
    What more can He say than to you He hath said—
    To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?
  2. “Fear not, I am with thee, oh, be not dismayed,
    For I am thy God, and will still give thee aid;
    I’ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
    Upheld by My gracious, omnipotent hand.
  3. “When through the deep waters I call thee to go,
    The rivers of sorrow shall not overflow;
    For I will be with thee thy trouble to bless,
    And sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.
  4. “When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie,
    My grace, all-sufficient, shall be thy supply;
    The flame shall not harm thee; I only design
    Thy dross to consume and thy gold to refine.
  5. “The soul that on Jesus doth lean for repose,
    I will not, I will not, desert to his foes;
    That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
    I’ll never, no never, no never forsake

Solomon known as the wisest man in all the world declares in Proverbs 10:25 BELIEVERS HAVE A FIRM FOUNDATION, The Passion Translation describes it as an ANCHOR. The fact that it is an everlasting foundation suggests to me it has its basis not on and in man but on God Himself. Many of us over the years may have put our trust and hope in men and organisations, and have ended up disappointed and frustrated., but Solomon tells us that when the storms of life come (and they do) we must make sure that our foundation is clearly and fully resting on God and His promises which never fail, For our God is always TRUE TO HIS NAME, HIS NATURES AND HIS PROMISES. Hebrews 13:8 NKJV Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Jeremiah 3:22-23 NKJV echo this glorious truth Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not, they are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him”. The hymnwriter (above) speaks of the “deep waters” and “fiery trials” and the Lord permits these to come to us to test us and for us to learn to reaffirm our understanding and commitment to our EVERLASTING FOUNDATION.

Again, I see the importance of Biblical Discipleship that that the new Believer (and the not so new) is convinced by revelation the awesome foundation we havein our God.

Paul writing to young Pastor Timothy in 2 Tim. 4:2.Be ready in season and out of season. We have here just come out of a long hot Summer into Autumn, we have had some lovely autumn days, but yesterday for example was cold and wet, and it is quite a shock to the system, Just as naturally we must be prepared for the changing weather seasons, so in the journey of life we must learn to be ready for these changing seasons, ands equally in our walk with the Lord, we must be prepared, and not relax during the “balmy” sweet blessed times, but make sure our ARMOUR IS ON, remain disciplined so we are prepared for a new “season”.

This blog is a simple reminder we have an EVERLASTING FOUNDATION (an anchor) when the pressures come lean back onto the EVERLASTING ARMS OF OUR GOD.
