ARE YOU DEVELOPING YOUR SPIRITUAL SENSES.

By John Ollis

I wrote a couple of statements on FB yesterday.

  1. What are you seeing and hearing? I see a cloud, and hear the sound of abundance of rain. 1 Kings 18:41-45
  2. I also hear the sound of marching. 2 Samuel 5:24-25 VICTORY IS ON THE WAY hallelujah                                                                                                                                        Many of us know the story in 1 Kings of Elijah declaring he heard the sound of abundance of rain, and Ahab at last discerned a cloud  “the size of a man’s hand”.

In 2 Samuel God said to David, “When you shall hear  the sound of marching, then you shall advance quickly.
As we pass these stories through the Cross and apply New Covenant truth to them,  you clearly see the importance of having our spiritual senses so trained that we can see and hear what God wants us to see and hear.
Only after I had posted these statements I began to meditate on these truths afresh, just as we have five natural senses we also have five spiritual senses.
We need to learn to SEE in the Spirit.
We need to HEAR in the Spirit, through the Word, and the God’s still small voice in our spirit
we need to learn to  TOUCH in the Spirit.
We need to learn to TASTE in the Spirit.
We need to SMELL in the Spirit.
Each one of these 5 spiritual senses need to be developed into 5 separate blogs, and I may do that in the near future.
We have no problem developing our 5 bodily senses that are naturally in our body, but my pastoral concern is that new Disciples are not given any TRAINING to develop their spiritual senses, so consequently when it comes to hearing God’s voice for example it is:
Hit and miss
Trial and error.
Paul tells us in 1 Cor.14:10 KJV There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification. we can all tell stories about people who thought they heard from God, but what they heard did not line up with the Word of God. If you are honest you may have missed it a few times too!!!!!!!!!
I do not believe it has to be this way, Lord help us to train new Believers  the Bible way.
THIS IS WHERE WE NEED A MENTOR TO WALK WITH US AND HELP TRAIN US TO DEVELOP OUR SPIRITUAL SENSES.
My readers will say, I only have one message, and that is Biblical Discipleship, but so many people get into error and even into sin because they thought they heard God speak to them.
The writer to Hebrews says in Hebrews 5:14 NLT Solid food is for those who are mature, who through TRAINING have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.
The AMP N.T. says But solid food is for full-grown men, for those whose senses and mental faculties are trained by practice to discriminate and distinguish between what is morally good and noble and what is evil and contrary either to divine or human law.
I have written many times that God wants to SPEAK to us EVERY DAY, what do we read after every message to the seven churches in the Book of revelation “He who has an ear, let him HEAR what the Spirit says to the churches.” Paul reminds us in Rom. 10:17 NKJV  that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Do you want more faith, then you must learn to HEAR God’s voice through His Word.
Do you remember the old song?
The move is on my Lord, the move is on, The move is on my Lord the move is on,
I can HEAR the rustling in  the mulberry trees, and I know the move is on.
May we so tune in to God’s voice to HEAR the God’s marching army and the “sound of revival”, and HEAR the sound of abundance of rain.
May we SEE in the Spirit the “glory cloud”
May we TASTE and see that the Lord is good.
May we reach out more and more and TOUCH the Lord
May we SMELL the fragrance of the Rose of Sharon, and the Lily of the Valley and let His presence envelop us AMEN.
