LEARNING TO STAY YOUNG IN THE SPIRIT

By John Ollis

As a child and even well into adulthood, I considered someone who was 80 years old, and more VERY OLD, in just a few months time I will have my 80th birthday, and physically I still agree that 80 is old, there are more aches and pains in my body as the months go on, and I cannot move as first as I once did, but I can say with King David in Psalm 37:25 NKJV I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

Speaking out of almost 70 years of Christian experience that is my constant testimony.

I want to echo Moses words in Psalm 90:10 NKJV The days of our lives are seventy years;
And if by reason of strength they are eighty years, My next personal goal is to celebrate my 80th birthday, and give GOD ALL THE GLORY, for His continued goodness and blessing upon my life, I thank God every day for His unmerited grace and favour on my life, What an awesome God we love and serve, His everlasting unfailing love is our daily portion.

I have previously written a blog on Psalm 92:12-15 KJV

The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree:
he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
Those that be planted in the house of the Lord
shall flourish in the courts of our God.
They shall still bring forth fruit in old age;
they shall be fat and flourishing;
To shew that the Lord is upright:
he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

N.L.T. But the godly will flourish like palm trees
and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon.
For they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house.
They flourish in the courts of our God.
Even in old age they will still produce fruit;
they will remain vital and green.
They will declare, “The Lord is just!
He is my rock!
There is no evil in him!”

MESSAGE Good people will prosper like palm trees,
Grow tall like Lebanon cedars;
transplanted to God’s courtyard,
They’ll grow tall in the presence of God,
lithe and green, virile still in old age.”
Such witnesses to upright God!
My Mountain, my huge, holy Mountain!

AMP.N.T. The [uncompromisingly] righteous shall flourish like the palm tree [be long-lived, stately, upright, useful, and fruitful]; they shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon [majestic, stable, durable, and incorruptible].
Planted in the house of the Lord, they shall flourish in the courts of our God.
[Growing in grace] they shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap [of spiritual vitality] and [rich in the] verdure [of trust, love, and contentment].
[They are living memorials] to show that the Lord is upright and faithful to His promises; He is my Rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

I do not ever want to major on the good old days ,I want to major on today, as I remain “planted in a local church, and continue to press on and into the Lord daily I shall continue to be (spiritually) fat and flourishing, there is that constant temptation to (spiritually) “slow down” and to start compromising, which is so prevalent in many parts of the Church today, I don’t mind bein called “old fashioned” with God’s help and with His grace I will seek to maintain holy standards of lifestyle, and speech, I simply want people TO SEE JESUS IN ME.

Physically, I am not enjoying the “aging process” but am seeking “in everything” to give thanks, and like the Apostle Paul and looking to the day when I will be with Lord forever, and will enjoy my new body for eternity amen.

If any of my readers are moving into their “senior” years I encourage you not to spiritually slow down, but believe THE BEST IS YET TO COME, not just in eternity, but in the years that lay ahead of you here on earth.
